Comcast just ran cable out here. They're offering a package for $80/month :

HD Cable package with dual-tuner HD DVR (I know, it's not Tivo), and 10 Mbps internet.

I wonder if I were to call DTV and tell them I'm thinking of switching, if they'd offer me some swag. :)

Like upgrade us to HD or something.

Anyone know?

All I know is that if I had the opportunity to switch over to HDTV with DVR (Tivo or no Tivo) AND get 10Mbps internet, I'd drop Directv like a bad habit.

I love living in a rural community, but the lack of services can be frustrating. For me, $75 for Directv service (with 2 DTivos), $60 for 3g Cellular internet service that gets a whopping 1.2Mbps, and $35 for the land line phone... it all adds up each month...

Only Dtv can really answer your questions, but I would want to be sure that any swag they offer would be long term, not just some 2 or 3 month incentive. Savings with Comcast could be considerable over the long term depending on what your currently paying for.

Cox Cable, which is closest to me (within a couple miles of my house) could save me at least $50 a month for more services. Directv would have to be willing to offer a lot of swag. The 10Mbps internet connection ALONE would make the change worth while.

And you can easily keep DirecTV and just get the high speed Internet from Comcast. Easily done. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Get an HD Tivo, set it up with CableCARD from Comcast and drop DirecTV like a bad habit.
But you don't want the Comcast DVR.
