Looking to the experts for some advice...
I purchased my first TiVo (HD) last fall and signed up for the one year prepaid plan. I am loving the unit and am going to be adding a new one shortly.

Here is where things get murky...
I am on the road a ton and have enough hotel points to order a TiVo HD with either 1 year prepaid or 3 year prepaid service (those are the only options available with hotel points).

Question is, what is the most cost effective way to take advantage of the hotel points to get a free TiVo but also have reasonable service plan on the existing unit? I had read somewhere that the 3 year plans are not eligible to be tied to MSD...

I think your best option is to order the Tivo, add it to your account, let the subscription run its course and when you "re-up" get the MSD.

Information on the MSD rules can be found here:https://www3.tivo.com/abouttivo/policies/tivomsd_tcs_windowpopup.html
Note Number 1 under General eligibility - I do not believe your existing TiVo's plan can receive the MSD - the new TiVo's plan should auto qualify when you register it.

Good Luck,

After some further investigation, I discovered that the 1 year or 3 year service that comes with the TiVo HD in this deal is tied to a promo code...

If I want lifetime service, the promo code is useless to me as it will prevent me from getting the discount on lifetime service through MSD.

Bummer, guess I'll order the one with 1 year of service and hang on to the promo code in case I need it for something else in the future.

Just an FYI for anyone who may order a TiVo through Skymall or one of their partner sites:

TiVo products ordered from Skymall (and partner sites) are fulfilled by Coast Fulfillment in CA. The subscriptions included with the hardware are Gift Certificates (NOT promo codes).

Had I gotten the right info when I ordered, I would have gotten the unit with the 3 year sub (probably $300+ in gift cert value, would have completely paid for lifetime on the new TiVo).

You live, you learn...
Cheers!
