Hi all,

I am about to get a relatively simple Cablecard/Digital Cable and Internet install in a new apartment (I have one Tivo HD and one HDTV, and my own cable modem). I hope it goes well, but who knows? I did have some ancillary questions I hope you could help with, though.

One - this is the first apartment I have ever lived in that came with multiple prewired cable jacks. The one jack I have connected a TV with a digital tuner to receives no cable channels right now. I was wondering if, when cable is installed (which I assume means a filter is removed), all 4 jacks in the apartment will be activated, or if they activate only the specific ones you plan to use at the time of install. My reasoning is that I may want to move my TV at some point or add a second TV (analog only) sometime in the near future, and I want to avoid a second install fee. More importantly, I was thinking of connecting my cable modem to a different jack than the TV to reduce cable clutter and place the modem and router in a more discreet location.

Second, is there an alternative place I find my Comcast Digital Starter lineup? I get annoyed that I have to enter my full address to get my local lineup, and even then it seems incomplete. It does not include channel numbers for any HD channels. As I understand it, HD comes free with Comcast Digital service for the majority of channels provided; I'd like more information on the mapping and what exactly is included. I am in zip 22201, if that helps.

My apartment has a cable jack in every room and they all work. I have 2 hooked up to tvs and another hooked up to my pc. Of course YMMV.

No ideas about the Comcast lineup.

When Comcast re-wired our building for digital cable, they installed all new wiring and gave us new cable jacks. The old jack from the old wiring is still visible, because no one has tucked it into the wall and put in a new blank cover plate to conceal it, but there's no signal going to it anymore.

If you have multiple jacks in the same room, you may have the same situation, with some of the wiring belonging to a legacy system. Ask your landlord or local Comcast office.
