Hello:
We have an HR10-250 and have been very happy with it. Not too long ago, we recorded thru a season pass, an episode of Barney. It was broadcast on one of the PBS locals we receive thru DirecTV.
My son really enjoyed this particular episode and has watched it several times in the last couple of weeks.
Now, however, it is gone from the playlist and not in the recently deleted list. No one purposely deleted it, and if they had, wouldn't it have been in the 'recently deleted' folder?
TIA for any advice.

There's nothing that should have "timed out" that recording. Either your DVR got too full and this old recording was deleted to make room for new recordings, or somebody accidentally deleted it. Stuff doesn't hang around the "Recently Deleted" folder for very long if your Tivo is low on free space.

Thanks for the prompt reply!
Is there a quick way to tell how much freespace or hours of programming is left on the DVR?
It is certainly possible that we are close to the 200 hours of programming?
Thanks again.

If you have suggestions turned on they fill unused space and can be used as a space indicator.
If you want to keep something you can Save Until I Delete and TiVo will never delete it.

Actually, the recently deleted folder can be a good gauge of how much space it left. The fewer shows in the list the lower the available space for new programs.

Either your DVR got too full and this old recording was deleted to make room for new recordings, or somebody accidentally deleted it...You are probably correct. There is another possibility, which is that the box deleted it because of a database cataloging error, which can happen if something corrupts that data.
HDDs are really not a good place to archive things that you want to keep because there are these sorts of possibilities. Tivo is a cache recorder and it expects stuff to not be archived there for all that long. If you (OP) get the show again, or have other favorites you want to keep, I would suggest dubbing those shows to DVDR or VCR (what's that! :)) which is a more reliable archive strategy.
At least it was an opportunity to give your child a lesson in the impermanence of things.

FYI there can be expiration times on the DirecTV HD DVRs if not on the DirecTivos.
