I have a DirectTV TiVo and a Sony DVD Burner, and I have the TiVo feed going directly into the Burner so that I may burn recorded programs from my TiVo onto DVD. And I am having some problems, it will be burning the program onto the DVD, and then a half an hour into the program, the DVD Burner tells me "Will not Record Copyright Protection Detected" Is this illegal? How is this any different that recording a program with a VCR onto tape? And is there any way I could bypass the copyright protection without breaking open my TiVo? Thank you, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Does your TIVO have the option to record to tape? If it does it sounds like it's your DVD burner. I have been using a PYE DVD burner (it was cheap at the time) for 3 years now with no problems. I have this on an older series 2 DTV TIVO.

No, my TiVo doesn't have the record to tape option, my older TiVo did though. I wonder why it is gone. But more recently, I haven't had the problem. Maybe it was a glitch. Thanks for your response.

I've heard from a couple of sources that a lot of Sony DVD recorders are a little over zealous with the DRM stuff, sometimes even detecting it on home movies.
