I had a S1 since 2000, but have been using the Comcast DVR for a few years due to wanting two tuners and HD.

This week I bought a HD XL. I went through guided setup. I have an appointment for Comcast to install the CC(s) on Saturday. After reading many threads with people having problems, I am hopeful, but somewhat nervous :)

The guide shows my full lineup of normal (analog?) and digital channels. I understand I can't receive the digital channels until I get the CC installed. Analog channels are almost unwatchable on my projector and big screen, so I wanted to seek out HD versions of the network channels which are normally available unencrypted. In my area (Atlanta), you add 800 to the analog version to get the HD version. 3 = ABC, 803 = ABC HD, etc. These channels are in the guide, but tune to random analog channels. (TV Land, etc)

I did a channel scan. Tivo reports 400+ channels found. I am guessing these are various clear QAM channels? By turning on all channels in the guide, I was able to see that channel "2-1 WSBDT" was ABC in HD. There was no guide data available, but at least I was able to watch HD programming.

So my question is, does this problem just go away when the CCs get installed, and I can just tune channel 803 and have WSB in HD appear? Or is there some kind of channel mapping process involved, like in PC based DVRs?

Thanks!

Yep, with CC your problem will go away.

So my question is, does this problem just go away when the CCs get installed?Yes. Once the cards are installed, all of the channels will be mapped just like they are on the cable company's own boxes.
