I got one last week at Sears and so far am lovin it! I do have a couple of questions:

The remote seems very sensitive, if your not careful it will double click. The
remote that came with my Direct TV Tivo did not do this. Anyone else notice this? Will it get better?

The TIVO has missed recordings with no hint in the history as to how. My theory is that for the ones missed there were a lot more than 5 up coming
episodes, and the default is to keep onlt 5. Would this explain the misses?
I have modified the season pass to only record first runs and will see if this works.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
John

If you had 5 recording already it would not record any more after 5 and would appear to miss them. But I would think it would show in the "to do list" with a reason for why it did not record a showing.

Not sure on the remote, I have never had issues with mine, but you may want to be more clear on what you have, there are a lot of flavors of Tivo out there now, Tivo S3, Tivo HD, Tivo HDXL, lots of series 2 stuff still.

Good luck,
Phil

If there are more than 5 it would still record all of them, but it would delete the first episodes recorded so that only 5 remain (unless your season pass is set to Keep Until I Delete then it would stop recording after 5). I think that information would appear in Recoding History though.

In my experience double clicks are caused by either weak batteries or interference from somewthing else in the room.

Make sure you do not use the "keep until I delete" and "keep at most 5 episodes" settings together. If you do, the TiVo will record five episodes and no more, because you've told it to only keep five episodes, but you've also told it not to delete anything.

If you are new to the TivoHD, be sure to see the Using TiVo and TiVo Tips links in my signature.

I have the double click issue with my universal remote, only for some buttons and only on the S3. My S1 does not have that issue. I thought it was due to my remote since it isn't the TiVo S3 remote. I haven't tried with the S3 remote because I use that on my TiVo HD in another room

If you prefer your DirecTiVo remote, you can certainly use that. Standalone TiVos are compatible with DirecTiVo remotes.

If you ever have difficulty with remote responsiveness, check whether your TV has a setting for a light sensor or day/night (another name for a light sensor). When enabled, this light sensor emits IR and interferes with remote signals from the TiVo and other devices.

Some universal remotes, like the Harmony, also cause "double clicks" with their default settings for the TiVo. Instructions to eliminate that problem on Harmony remotes can be found under the Using TiVo link in my signature.

Unfortunately, bearbig needs to post 10 messages before he can see your signature. (The reason for that escapes me)

Thanks for all the replies. My new TIVO is a TCD652160. Me thinks this is a series 3 HD unit.
I really can't use my DTV remote as it only controls 1 tivo ( series 2 RCA 80). I'll try fresh batteries as who knows the condition of the ones that came with the tivo.

The lack of history still stumps me as it happened for 3 different shows on monday night. I had a recording set for sunday nite that didn't record either but there was a note in the history that it was due to someone modifying the season pass. I didn't and the little woman thinks she didn't, so.......? BTW all the recordings that didn't happen were from season passes. Could it be due to the way I set them? I searched for the programs by title vs looking them up in the guide. Maybe it could be a result of not running the most current version of sofftware as I would bet I set the season passes shortly after the unit first booted up.

Thanks
John

Can you tell us how you know that it didn't show that they recorded? Can you walk us through the steps you are taking to check that? What menus are you going in to and not seeing this information.

Are you using basic cable, digital cable, or an antenna?
