Now THAT was a season finale! Roman dead, Selma pouring her heart out to the Feds, and... Bill starts his own church! I'm betting Don is the first person outside the family to sign up for it.

It was a profoundly effective moment when Nickie shows up for the church-launching sacrament with her daughter in tow, especially after her earlier scene where she tells her brother that she grew up truly believing that Roman was the prophet. She needs that certainty in her life, and now she's transferred that faith to Bill in a way she never really did before. She's still Nickie, or course, she WILL get up to something at some point, but for now she's back in the fold in a way that wouldn't have seemed possible just one episode ago.

What incredible writing and acting!

I'm just not so sure that Roman will stay dead, but I'll be glad if he does - so far he's had an incredible ability to keep on going.

As Bill was talking about starting his church all I could think was, what will this be - "The Church of Bill"??

This was an incredible season.

Roman and possibly Albie out of commission creates quite the power vacuum at the compound. So, who takes over?

Albie's plan with the bomb was one of the stupider things I've seen anyone on this show do. Is he really stupid enough to try an detonate a bomb to kill his parents without even knowing whether his parents are there?

Kudos to Don for having the foresight and taking the initiative to follow Selma and call the prosecutor.

I liked Roman's final soliloquy on how he "seized power from God." Kind of reconciles more clearly what his religious beliefs were.

Where was Teeny in the final scene?

I wondered about Teeny as well. Where was she? I was trying to count all the kids.

I wonder if Sarah will be in fewer episodes next season, and they brought in Cara Lee as a replacement? You just know that CL is going to give Nikki a run for her money because of the very small peek into her dishonesty we got to see when she took another piece of the cake while out playing with the frog.

And what happened to Rhonda and Frankie? Didn't we see Rhonda hitching a ride with a trucker? Wasn't that the last we saw of her? I can't remember...

My head is spinning. I wonder if Margene is going to make it big with her craptacular jewelry.

I wonder if Barb and her sister will come to a truce.

I wonder if Albie will take his father's place.

And about that bomb... Did anyone else notice how his mother never bothered to ask if the Hispanic lady was ok? She was laying all up under her cart and I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. Laura, a bomb-maker? LOL WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT? And she was all making it in her prairie dress. hahahh

That would suck. The characters come from completely different places.

(Oh, and Amanda Seyfried is hot).

Yes, it is.

And I think Frankie is in Guatemala searching for his mother.

My head is spinning. I wonder if Margene is going to make it big with her craptacular jewelry.

She is, and then her polygamous relationship will throw a monkeywrench in it when it becomes public.

Yeah, didn't we already learn that when Barb was Mother of the Year a season or two back?

I expect to see lots of press in the new season using the word "cult" to describe Margene's new church.

What if Bill is suddenly seen as the new prophet?

What if Bill is suddenly seen as the new prophet?

I was thinking that, too. He wakes up tomorrow morning and the entire Compound is standing at his doorstep waiting for their paper cup of kool-aid! :p

What if Bill is suddenly seen as the new prophet?

that's how i see it unfolding, perhaps even having them take over the compound. with nicki's former husband there in a power struggle maybe?

Great epsiode.

But here's what I didn't get: Didn't Bill already form his own church? After all he's not mainstream LDS, and he clearly doesn't believe Roman is the Prophet. And we've only ever seen the family praying alone or with Don's family. So I just assumed that happened long ago, that when he had a testimony to go his own way and follow the Principle, that he had started his own church too. So that part of the last scene didn't exactly resonate with me, since I thought that had taken place long ago.

But I just loved the Kara Lynn appearance and how they used it to bring Nicki back into the fold -- and bring us an intriguing new character who is sure to carry a lot of conflict into the next season.

Yeah, I agree that Albie's too smart and evil to be caught up in that half-baked bomb plot. Wouldn't he at least send an underling rather than going himself? The scene where he and Nicki were discussing it didn't ring true either -- I think she would have at least paid some lip service to "No, that's crazy, we can't kill anyone."

Sarah and Scott -- somehow I can't see them really getting married. I wonder what will happen.

Speaking of missing characters, is Heather gone completely?

Great finale. Wish the new season started right away!

I always had the impression that Bill was sort of another branch of the Compound - his father had been the prophet, and Roman usurped what could (should?) have been Bill's role after Bill's dad died. He and his family moved away but kept to the "rules" of the Compound-based church. Now he's decided that he's been authorized by god to write his own rules.

As for Alby, I don't think that he would have trusted anyone to kill his parents - only he, his wife, and Nickie were in on that. And they are their parents' children - sanity and conventional morality were not big factors in their upbringing.

Bill maternal grandfather was the prophet. Bill's father, still alive, is just a jerk.

I stand corrected. Actually in a normal world Bill's father would probably be considered somewhat of a psycho, but by the standards of this group he's just a jerk.

Did Nikki kidnap Cara Lynn from JJ? I doubt JJ gave her up freely.

Does Nikki have any legal rights for custody of CL? Nikki abandoned her. But JJ was going to put her in the "Joy" book.

I thought CL was JJ's new 14 year-old-wife at first.

I thought we would see JJ kidnap Nikki in this episode.

I think Nikki stole her away. We can now add kidnapping to her list of bad judgment calls.

She said "no one saw us" to Barb when she got back with CL, so clearly she took her.

I think Nikki stole her away. We can now add kidnapping to her list of bad judgment calls.
I would call keeping CL out of the "joy book" a rare good and selfless act from Nikki.

I took Nikki's reaction to the conversation to indicate that she thought they were just having fun talking about doing such a thing, not that she believed Albie was actually plotting to do so.

Well, I did too. I think that's how the writers intended the scene to play off. But that didn't ring true at all to me. Nicki knows Albie more than well enough to know that he could really be feeling her out about something like that -- especially once he started talking about details rather than generalities. I think the real Nicki would have gotten the same sense that was obvious to the viewers -- that he might well be dead serious -- and therefore would have said something to break the tension and make clear to him that she was only kidding.
