I'm wanting to digitize all my media... Should I use a nas or buy a server?? any suggestions on brands and expandability/ease of use. I have 4 tivos....to hd's and to s2's.

It's mostly a matter of how much you want to spend and how important it is to retain your digitized media. For me, I'm at the stage where a couple of 1TB drives on an older computer running pyTivo works just fine. My digitized media is mostly DVD rips so if I lose a drive, I can re-rip. There are plenty of folks here that run the full gamut from low cost to high dollar solutions.

I have a combination.
I scored 3 1.5tb drives for about $86 each. Put one in my desktop, and two in my DLINK dns323 nas. The nas works great, use it to store all of my media.
I use the drive in the computer for ripping onto, or transcoding, and then push everything to the NAS server for serving/storage.
Works great for me. gigabit nas is running Raid 5, and runs pretty cool, and shuts off when there is no access.

Do you have two NASes? I'm pretty sure the DLINK DNS 323 can only take two drives, meaning the highest RAID level it can do is 1 (mirroring). You need at least 3 drives to do RAID 5.
