In earlier versions of the software, when you pressed "5" and went to the choose show by date and channel screen, the times on the right defaulted to the current time.
So, for example, if you were trying to set up a show at 3:00 pm, the shows on the right came up with the 3:00 pm shows showing.
Now, in later versions, the screen defaults to 12:am the preceeding night. Since none of us are able to record a show that has already aired, we have to page down through page after page of shows to get to an evening show we want to record.
If you are setting up many shows or season passes, this paging down gets very annoying -- especially since we know the code has already been written and tested to default to the current time.
New innovations are great, but don't go backwards in the user friendly nature of the TiVo interface. Cut and paste that old code back into the next service update.
