I am switching to digital cable and received my boxes from Comcast in Seattle. One all full service set top box for the TV and one digital to analog converter for the TiVO box.

The dac box I received for the TiVo has an IR Input port and an IR cable that can be placed forward of equipment so the remote will work if the box is burried. The DAC does NOT have a serial port.

Anyone know if there is such a beast as an IR to IR cable? I have not found a reference yet.

If I understand your situation correctly, all you need is a cable with a 1/8" mini jack on each end.
One end goes into the IR input port on the dac box and the other end into IR control port on the Tivo.

I don't believe that's what should be done.

The TiVo is putting out an electrical signal to make an infra red emitter work.

The cable box sounds like it has an outlet for an external infra red RECEIVER.

It's meant to receive the light and convert that into a signal the cable box understands.

If you were to feed an electrical signal from the TiVo directly into that input on the cable box, there's the chance you could fry both units.

Oh, if that's the case, sounds like the OP could use the IR blasters that came with the Tivo and then "couple" them to the IR receivers on the cable that came with the dac box.

I kind of thought the IR to IR cable idea was not possible, but it was worth checking.

I would have used the IR Blaster, however I don't have it. Long gone. I checked local stores and can't find one so I need to buy one online. :(

Typically, a 1/8" mono headphone plug extension cable, available at Radio Shack, works to couple a TiVo's IR Out port to another device's IR In. However, I'm a bit uncertain about a device which uses this jack to connect an unpowered IR sensor. It might work anyway.

I'm setting up my Comcast Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) now and had the exact same thought about using a 1/8" male to male mono plug in lieu of the IR blasters. Has anyone tried this and can verify that it works?

If the connection says IR INPUT I'd try the 1/8" plug

I have always been able to get serial control to work either with DB9 or the phone style connection AKA 'low speed data' on my Dtv boxes / TW cable.
