This past month I switched my home network over to a new ISP ( AT&T DSL ) from my Comcast Cable. I just realized this past weekend, that my Tivo had not updated via the web....since I made that change.

I knew that my series 1 was working fine on my network, as I had pulled a variety of files off in the past week with Tytool.

Then, when I tried to use a normal phone dial out....it still didn't work. I did check to by telephone to ensure the number reached a network connection, it does.

After trying a variety of things.....I put my Comcast cable modem back on the network, and the TIVO was successful in make it's dial out via the web.

So then I started searching here for solutions. I've read through the posts on the Transparent proxy issue...although those seem to all be UK based issues.

Before I telnet into the TIVO and start mucking about...which I rarely do, so there is some danger of creating an even bigger issue......

Does anyone have any input on issues here in the states...specifically with the AT&T 2Wire DSL ISP hookup???

I played around with the model/router's firewall....but it didn't change a thing. And of course that would not have solved the transparent proxy issue I have read about in the UK, if that's the problem.

Any input here would be appreciated....otherwise my next step is to use some of the earlier posts to see if this solution helps.

Thanks....

I know NOTHING about TiVos using a web connection to phone home, but you make me wonder why this is a problem? You got it to work, right?

Is it that you still have Comcast internet access, but now have AT&T as well, but were planning to do away with Comcast? Is it that your Comcast equipment worked with the AT&T connection, but you know you'll have to return it?

I'm a little unclear on WHAT the problem is, since you DID get it to phone home successfully.

The problem is that I'm in the midst of changing from Comcast to AT&T as my ISP. The AT&T is quite a bit less expensive for roughtly the same bandwidth.

So...I'm only keeping my Comcast alive, until I get this TIVO issue resolved. Right now I'm paying for two ISP's......

In the UK forum, there were similar issues to what I'm seeing, where the root cause had to do with transparent proxies used by the ISP. This weekend I may try a few things that were suggested for that issue. But, I don't routinely muck around in this old TIVO.....and I'm concerned I could make things worse. But....let's see.

My TIVO network connection works no different on my home network....whether I'm using the router that connects to Comcast...or the router that hooks to AT&T. The problem only arises in the failure of the box to be able to call home and get programming updates.

Thanks

Okay, the problem is solved...HOOORAY. And it was such a simple solution, my lack of dealing with the TIVO on any frequency was really my issue.

When I changed ISP's.....the new home router has a different network addresss.

So, going into the TIVO via TELNET...with nic_config_tivo got me to the fix immediately.

I noticed the gateway IP address was the old router, so I updated the address and bingo everything works great. Now I can shutdown the old ISP.

Now I need to take a few notes....so the next time I don't forget all this stuff.

Hooorah.
