I am moving my TiVoHD downstairs to a new setup that has HDMI video to the TV and I want to use the Digital Audio (optical) out to my receiver. At the moment the audio is playing through the TV speakers. I have the Digital Audio plugged in but how do I tell TiVo to send the audio out to the receiver and not the TV? Do I need to redo the guided setup?

Just plug in the optical cable to the TiVoHD's optical audio out and the other end to one of the A/V receiver's optical in's. You don't have to tell it anything--the optical out is alive even if the HDMI is used for just video.
You can take the TV's optical out to your A\V receiver, but it losses the 5.1 connection going that way. TiVo to A/V receiver retains it. That's what I have done with mine after I learned about the downgrade going through the TV causes.
If I use the TV tuners for cable TV the optical output is 5.1 for digital channels. The HDMI connection prevents a 5.1 audio from being output through the optical out of the TV. The HDMI connection will take the video to the TV fine without using the audio that comes with it.

This is good information. My intention is to directly to the receiver with the optical so I can get the best sound. I have it hooked into the receiver now but the audio is still coming through the tv and not the receiver. So that is why I thought I had to tell it. Is there another setting I am missing?

I have a TivoHD. Optical out goes to my receiver. HDMI goes to my TV. I get audio at both the TV and the receiver, but I just turn the volume to 0 on my TV. I don't think there is any configuration to do in the Tivo. Make sure you set your receiver's input to the optical connection.

As it turns out I had my receiver set to the right input but the "digital" setting was not enabled. So with one click of the button, we now have full surround sound. Thanks guys!
