I just ordered two set top boxes from Comcast in Seattle. I will dedicate one box to my series 2 box (TCD130040) and use IRBlaster so that the DVR can change channels on it.

I bought my TiVo from someone else and it didn't have the IRBlaster cable. Does anyone know what part number I should be looking for? Any good sources on cheap cables?

Thanks,

Steve

If your cable boxes have serial inputs, you would be well advised to go that route.

I have a few IR blasters laying around. PM me if you are interested. ;)

You also can find them on eBay.

Well, I am still sorting this out. I got the first box the other day. It is all digital and has NO serial port on it. I was going to run my TiVo and TV with it, but I don't want to be limited to having to watch which ever channel TiVO is recording. So I ordered a second box from Comcast, but they will only give me a free analog box. So TiVo will be limited to channels 2 - 99. No different than I have now. I should get that box delivered on Friday. I assume it will not have a serial port either.

That is why I thought I would have to go with IRBlaster.

So there is no specific model of cable for each series of TiVo?

IR blaster cables are generic. You can order one off Tivo's site for $6.99. You can also find them in some electronics stores, like Best Buy.

No, it's just a standard serial IR blaster.

I am assuming from your posts that you will have two different cable boxes, so the remotes won't interfere with each other.

I don't know if the remotes will interfere with each other or not. I will have to deal with that when the time comes.

Thanks for all the input. I will head over to Best Buy and see what I can find.
