View Full Version : Transfers not completing

Trying to transfer a show from basement HD to Family Room Series 3.
Until today, no issues going either way. Even HD shows transfer a bit faster than real time and analog, 2-3 times faster.
Today, transfers would start, then give up a few minutes later.
Nothing else happening on the network, and last two failures, no other TiVo activity, not playing or recording. Basement is wireless and shows OK connectivity, no different over last few weeks.
Any ideas how to start troubleshooting?

Any ideas how to start troubleshooting?

Step 1: Restart both TiVos.
Step 2: ?

The 3 R's of Tivo

Restart (and hope that solves the problem)
Regret (if restart doesn't work and you feel like you've been had)
Return (if it really piss you off that things aren't working as advertised)

Well, (yunlin) that wasn't helpful, since (2) and (3) don't apply, and (1) was alread suggested. There's more to troubleshooting than giving up so quickly. I'll know more tonight.

The scientific method offers far more choices than three, I'd kill the wireless and run ethernet along the basement ceiling before giving up. Even though it says good connection, some weird sh&* may be happening. Posters here continue to get me though the minor issues I've had, mostly my own mistakes, not TiVo's fault.

I restarted both machines.
Tries to move a show from HD to series 3.
The blue light comes on but message says "will transfer after current show is finished" or something to that effect. There are no other shows queued up to transfer and no transfer in process, but that light is on. Two more restarts and same issue.
Another restart and the Series 3 can pull shows off my TTG computer drive(s), but not the HD in basement.
I can also TTG shows from basement HD to the computer, at a pretty fast clip.

Make sure to clean any pending transfers out of the ToDo List or history of the DVR before pulling the plug to restart it.

ToDo List is now empty. I had done that. Is there somewhere else to look?
Minor update - these are both Series 3. The HD is in another room.

I ran a hard line (ethernet cable) to the basement TiVo and haven't seen this issue again.
Over the weekend, I may experiment and put it back on wireless to see if the problem returns.

Sorry I should have made it clear that I was just joking, sorry to have taken up precious thread space;) Both my Tivos are wired, so I have nothing to contribute here. I never trusted wireless transfer for Tivo, even though TTG transfer rate is way below 802.11g capacity. But now with Netflix/Amazon VOD and MPEG4 native transfer from PC to Tivo, I would not even consider wireless connection for Tivo as an option. I say if your wired connection is working, leave well enough alone. If there is anything I've learned in playing with TTG and TivoDesktop software, is that it is unreliable enough by itself, once you got it working, DON"T MESS WITH IT!

Hi,

I also am having these problems. First transfers to the HD/Series 3 machines occasionally didn't complete, dropped time in the middle of the transfer, or hung. Had a transfer hang Monday PM, and now neither HD machine will accept a transfer at all. The transfer request is accepted, added to the "To Do" list, the blue transfer light comes on (front of unit), but the show never transfers. Have called tech support, but they haven't been able to resolve the issue.

yunlin - on the internet no one can see you grin, or hear your funny tone. I didn't take offense.

Sandy - my symptoms were similar, and a combination of full restarts and going fully wired was the end for me. Don't know why wireless was part of the problem, not even sure it was. The blue light stuck on made no sense to me. Try pulling the plug, not just restarting.

Hi,

I have been working with the TIVO tech support about this issue, and today they insisted that I restart BOTH of my HD TIVOs using the clear programming and To Do listings option. Well, I DID!!!! Not only did it clear the programming and the to do list, but it wiped out most of my season passes - they INSISTED THAT THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN!!! In addition, afterwards, when I connected and attempted to retrieve the new programming, it DIDN'T WORK!!!! Now, not only can't I transfer anything onto my HD TIVO, I can't program anything to record - both season passes and programming by time and/or channel, puts the program on the to do list and states that there are no upcoming episodes!! The only way to get anything to record is to go to the program guide and program one episode at a time!!! Even then, when you attempt to look at upcoming episodes, not even the episode that you have scheduled to record shows up - you only get: no episodes found.

They had me try a regular reboot of the TIVO and re-pulling the program information - nothing worked. Their solution: WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU IN A DAY OR TWO WITH SOMETHING THAT MIGHT HELP!!!!!

They don't have any idea what they are doing.

Hi,

They don't have any idea what they are doing.

I'm sorry you lost all that data, but they really didn't lie to you. Rebooting the tivo is not supposed to clear out your todo list or season passes etc. It hopefully just needs to make the nightly connection to get the full program guide data and things should be back to normal... (hopefully).

If that's not the case, if you chose one of the RESET options that clears the season passes (instead of a reboot) that could cause it. It could also happen if there is significant corruption on your hard drive, which is going to probably lead to some more serious problems later on.
