HOLLY FRAKING CRAP.... for probably the last 2-3 weeks now I've been telling myself I have a theory on Kara's secret...
spoiler (highlight to read):
she is the child of the missing #13?
SHE knew the final five "song"

In Season 3 when the raptors all made the escape from the Pegasus during its suicide run by going to FTL just after launch everything is good. But now a loan raptor doing it "will rip the guts out".
Consistency guys.

well the Pegasus was structurally a lot better off than the Galactica is now.... minus being actively pounded with artilery and nukes LOL
I need to replay that section of the show, I was to busy freaking out over the bar/piano scene

I honestly don't know what to think...can't decide if I liked it or not...I guess most of it was good but the song thing was a little over the top...
the ending with Chief was stupid...
I wonder why the girl didn't kick and scream (or suffocate) inside the box...

Wow. So so good.
I was distracted by Kara's dad who who I knew from Days of Our Lives (really!) and who was credited in last week's opening credits but never actually appeared. Was this gonna be a two-parter (with last week) or something?
All that aside... the ep was fantastic. Simply awesome. I'm gonna miss this show so much!

I was thinking during the episode that it was a really good strong episode if we didn't only have three episodes left. That was my problem with it. Yes it moved the plot along, but in that hour there was little that moved forward and once again if we didn't only have a few episodes left it would have been a great episode.
I wonder why the girl didn't kick and scream (or suffocate) inside the box...
Boomer was giving her something to drink when she picked her up to knock her out.
I hate to harp on the "writers are making it up as they go along" issue, but the cylon projection thing brought me right back into it.

Hey guys. I have a TiVo back home but unfortunately I'm away for college. I really really liked the quote Kara said to Daniel. It was something about being lost. However, I didn't write it down fast enough and being separated from my TiVo, I can't exactly go back and listen to it. Anyway one of ya'll could be so kind as to type it out for me?
Thank you!

Not a bad episode, Grace Park is hot!!!
I liked the beginning of the 2nd movement. The one he riffed from the other composer. IOW who else recognized it for what it really was.
Was that Bear McCreary playing the composer/Kara's father?

Kara: How is it possible that I found my body and I'm still here? I mean, what am I? a ghost? a demon?
Piano player: You're asking the wrong guy. I'm just the piano player.
Kara: when I was leading the fleet to Earth, everything seemed so clear. For the first time in my life, I knew what I was doing. why I was here. Now I'm just adrift again.
Piano Player: Listen. It may feel like hell, but sometimes lost is where you need to be. Just because you don't know your direction doesn't mean you don't have one.

Yet another so-so episode. At least there were a couple good moments.
Interesting that they threw in the part about the spatial distortion being so damaging. I guess it was just another plot device they can use, otherwise to me, it seems like it could've been a pretty good weapon used by both sides.

Yeah, since we know Galactica can (or at least could formerly) withstand direct nuclear hits, perhaps a "jump drive missile" would have been worth developing.

I hate to harp on the "writers are making it up as they go along" issue, but the cylon projection thing brought me right back into it.
I have a feeling they're lurching towards an explanation of Baltar's mental Six.
One that maybe isn't going to make much sense?
That's the problem with making it up as you go along...you have all this stuff that you suddenly have to make up an explanation for when you reach the end.
I remember thinking, as I was watching the piano stuff--especially the last bit, which was technically very well done--that if this scene had happened three or four years ago, it would have blown me away. But the characters have become so malleable, so utterly subject to the whims of the writers and the needs of the moment at the expense of any sense of deeper humanity, that it left me completely cold. I was literally thinking, "I should be moved by this."
By the way, I watched the first episode of Law & Order: UK, and it wasn't very good. But it was VERY strange seeing Lee Adama with his native (Anglo-Irish) accent!

It is so frustrating how bad this show is now. I agree 100% with the previous critiques -- it would have been a good episode last season, but with so little happening in the last episodes of the series, it is so disappointing.
Ronald Moore seems to defend this saying facetiously on his podcast that if had an ounce of talent he would have had it all written before the series even began. He has a bit of a point in that I do not expect everything to be written out ahead of time down to the last detail. However, I do expect that if someone asks you to go on a ride with them, that they have some idea of where they are going. It seems like he just likes to do things because it he finds it "interesting." Like, wouldn't it be interesting if Starbuck was a hermaphrodite. Let's do an episode about it and make it very dramatic. Then we have no idea what to do next. But aren't we interesting?
I just think a serialized series has to have a coherent well designed story outline. Otherwise, no matter how dramatic or interesting, as an audience member, I just find myself losing interest and tired of being led around to a disappointing conclusion.

I don't care how bad most of the episodes have gotten or how close we are to the end of the series; this one was awesome and I'm delighted to have experienced it. It was back up to the standards of season 1 & 2. The piano music gave me chills. I'm going to watch it one or two more times and bask in it.
In another connection, it made me think of last week's episode and I looked back on the various episodes Jane Espenson has written - on a number of shows - and it occurs to me that all of her episodes aren't that great. She hasn't really done anything brilliant & inspired since Buffy, has she?

I'm not sure how I felt about this episode.
Starbuck's father taught her a song when she was a kid. That song turns out to be the song that is plugged into the Final 5 for some reason, and that Hera has access to.
Starbuck had delusions about seeing her father in the bar, and she had conversations with him in front of people, but no one noticed her talking to herself? I thought from the beginning that he would be a delusion.
I might not be able to pass judgement on this episode until I've seen the next 3.

I don't think it was like Baltar, where he's standing around talking to himself. My guess is she was sitting there sort of fantasizing, but not talking out loud.
My problem is that of another poster. This would have been a GREAT episode if we weren't in the last few episodes. Now, it's out of place.

see, I don't get the piano player as her father bit...she would have recognized her own father and known that she was imagining things, don't you think?
so while I agree that the drama plays well with the guy being her father in the end, I think it was an imaginary guy who turned out to be the soul/spirit of her father or something like that...
certainly, with her father being "Daniel", that would solve the mystery...and would make Kara the original "Hera"...

Not buying it. If one ship barely outside the pod could do that kind of damage......then multiple ships in rapid succession would do far worse.
I know I know....its sci fi and you need to suspend reality. But I would prefer to have to only suspend it once, not every time they need a plot point.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. This would have been a great ep a year ago, or even in the first half of this season.
But now we have, what, 3 episodes left? And there are how many major questions not even close to being answered? I just feel like instead of the ramping up to a major series finale, we're sliding backwards into one...

I think it's really more the opposite...the major questions have already been answered (at least as well as they're going to be), but the show keeps on going. Earth? Check. Final Five? Check. Basic history of the humans and Cylons? Check. Next? Erm...

It was a reworked story that aired in the American series. They changed a few details. I wonder if every episode is going to be like that? Just a rehash of American episodes. No original ones? Probably cheaper that way.

Someone may be able to give more detail, but here's the quick version:
Boomer finds Sharon "Athena" and proceeds to beat the living heck out of her, gags her, and stuffs her in a closet in the locker room. Helo comes in, thinking that Boomer is his Sharon, and has a tasty romp, while his sharon actually looks on. Boomer then picks up Hera from daycare.
Cut to the bar, Starbuck and "the piano man" are still working. Piano Man convinces her to play the little diddy that her dad taught her. They both break into a stirring rendition of "All along the Watchtower". The final 5 come to the bar and see her playing, she tells them that her dad taught her the song, and the Piano Man suddenly disappears; turns out he was apparently a figment of Kara's imagination. Theories are immediately posted on the Internet that Kara is the daughter of a Daniel model.
Tyrol helps Boomer load a box onto her Raptor; we all know that Hera is in the box, but Chief doesn't realize it. Boomer prepares to launch when Athena finds Helo and the alert goes out. Adama and Tigh are in CIC and begin to close the flight pods (pull the landing bays into the ship). Boomer guns the engines and spools up her FTL. Tigh warns that the backlash from her engaging her FTL that close to (or inside) the ship could cause serious damage to the Galactia. Boomer barely escapes the ship before the flight pods close all the way, and then immediately FTLs. The shockwave does some damage to the Battlestar. On the flight deck, Helo and Athena are railing on a security guy..."How could you miss her taking our 3 year old daughter?" Tyrol hears this and realizes what was in the box, and realizes (I hope to God realizes) that he was again played by Boomer. He races into the projected image of his and Boomer's "house", and finds that his projected "daughter" is missing as well.
One thing I've noticed is that my growing dislike for Adama and Roslin is causing me to always root for whoever is in conflict with them. Roslin practically dared the Chief to break Boomer out. Agreed. I can't stand the holier than thou attitude of those two. I find it very hard to find anyone to pull for anymore.
I agree with those who are frustrated by what this once great show has become. The lack of foresight by the writers is staggering. That said, I think my annoyance is magnified because in general, the critics are giving Moore and crew a free pass. I still keep seeing glowing review after glowing review for this show, as if the inconsistancies are meaningless or only in our minds.

Sidetracking for a moment:
Now that the RDM BSG revamp has turned out to be primarily a "one-season" wonder, I'm curious how we all would have liked the Richard Hatch revamp project had it been given the go-ahead instead.

Some of it sounds good (overall arch like B5), but I think the idea of having the original cast is ridiculous. That would be a showstopper for me - I doubt I'd give it a chance. I'd rather see it take place 100+ years after the original series, with descendants of the originals, descriptions of how the fleet has degraded after a century on the run, how the society has evolved, etc.

the critics are giving Moore and crew a free pass. I still keep seeing glowing review after glowing review for this show, as if the inconsistancies are meaningless or only in our minds.
Out of curiosity, can you point me to some of these glowing reviews? I already have so little time I don't go out of my way to seek reviews of BSG eps, esp. of ones that sucked.
Thanks. It looks like I missed the best part.
Yes, you did. :(

I normally don't put much stock in aicn's movie reviews, but their tv guy is usually spot on.

Didn't they call her "Sonia" or something like that? It definitely sounded like a name to me, and not any of the familiar ones. I think the implication is that she's not any of the ones we knew before.
It's Natalie and we have seen her before.

I don't suppose you could be a little more specific? :)

The new Cylon member of the Quorum is Sonia (Sonya?), a new Caprica 6 look-a-like. I just checked the scene.

No, Natalie was shot by Athena right before the base ship jumped away with Rosalyn. This is a new 6, I believe named Sonya or something like that.

Wow. Glad I read this thread. I must have been so bored by this episode that I didn't even realize what was going on with Kara and the piano guy. At this point, I'm just watching because it's almost over. I really don't care whether they answer any questions or do anything profound. I've already lost all interest.
This is my sentiment exactly. I thought this episode was totally boring and I totally lost the significance of the "dad" probably because I was bored with it.
Currently I am just waiting for the show to end and see how it is all wrapped up. I feel I will be disappointed...

How did chief take one look at Boomer and confirm that it's indeed Boomer and not just another 8?

I think it's supposed to represent the emotional attachment he had to boomer...of course, that emotional attachment seemed to be missing when Helo was fraking Boomer thinking she was Athena.

Yeah, I think cylons can somehow distinguish between copies, while humans can't.

Sorry. I tried going from memory and could have sworn it was Natalie. Oh well. Next time I will actually watch the scene again before I shoot my fingers off.

That's fine. They all look alike to me!:D In the background, you can hear someone say, all eights look alike, when they asked about how she could just take off like that.
Now that Boomer has returned to the Cylon fleet, they know where the Earth, and the remaining humans are, right? I suppose this will allow them to come back and we will have an ending consisting of an epic space battle between the cylon fleet, and a crippled and exhausted human fleet? (Just a guess, not a spoiler.)
There is one episode and then the three part finale. If the Cylons had a plan from the beginnng, I'd like to know what it was before the show ends.

An interesting twist in the Starbuck/piano thingy. This hit me a few days ago, I guess I’m too lazy to post this. When Starbuck was captured on Caprica and held in the hospital her doctor (spylon) told her that he noticed that all of her fingers where broken deliberately. He then asked her if she wanted to talk about it (inferring that she was a victim of child abuse). Coincidence?
