I have submitted a thread on Slingcommunity asking Sling to add ethernet IR support to the Slingboxes. Since the code is rather simple, it should be an easy modification for them.
If you would like to see them make this improvement, support this thread (http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thread/33888/Easy-Sling-Enhancement-for-TiVo-Users-Ethernet-IR/).

I'm sure they'll do it. Oh wait...what company owns Sling again?
Can't hurt to ask, though.

Who owns them?

Who owns them?
Echostar aka Dish Network.
TiVo was recently awarded $104.6 million in its case against Dish Network, who was found to have stolen TiVo technology. TiVo is seeking additional damages for infringement since the original ruling.

I guess competition is usually a good thing for consumers, but not always.

I would hesitate to call it simple. For them, it is much more complicated than adding IR codes. In fact, calling it easy, is almost an insult to the developers. So it would require them adding special functionality for TiVo Series3 boxes outside of how they normally implement remote features. It would definitely be an awesome feature but I would be surprised to see it added.

The program I wrote for my desktop is very simple. Not knowing how the Slingbox firmware is composed, it may be difficult, but not necessarily. The biggest obstacle I foresee is the ability to send an IR code without interrupting the output audio/video stream.

The code to control a TiVo isn't complicated for sure. However, setting this up in the Slingbox interface is probably much more complicated. AFAIK, they have never adding a network remote support for any device.
