The last thing on my recording is the guy saying '...the fat guy across the isle from me-" and that was it. My recording was cut off. And I pad! (From now on it's TEN minutes extra. :( )

What happened?

The show was 1hr 6min long tonight, according to my guide data.

It ran on time. My OTA recording of Life on Mars started right on time at 10:06. However, my manual recording of LOST (which I recorded on clear QAM cable to avoid any antenna issues) ended at 10pm so I missed the last 6 minutes!

That's the problem with thinking you're smarter than TiVo! :D

My recording was done by time and channel too.

Guess I missed a minute. Next week's pop-up replay, maybe...

Or try this: open up a big old can of spam and dig in with a big old spoon...

My TiVo also cut off the end. I just finished watching the rest at ABC's website; they've already posted the show for streaming.

I figured I'd missed at most thirty seconds or so. Seems like I missed a whole 4 minutes. (cut off when Ben was re-arranging his scene of the crime).

As a rule, the shows I care about get plenty of padding. This includes Chuck, Terminator, Lost, 24, BSG, and Dollhouse. To a lesser extent, Leverage and Damages.

My Direct DVR caught it all with no manual padding.

Mine too. I was really surprised it was that long. Was the program content that much longer, or was it padded with more commercials?

EDIT: Looking at the program length in iTunes, it seems to be about 3 minutes longer than normal (about 46 vs 43 for most of the other episodes).

Did anybody miss part of the show who didn't use some kind of manual recording? That is, did the Season Pass fail for anybody?

My SP worked just fine. The recording was 1:08, which I think includes a 1 minute pad on both ends.

My SP caught it all, too.

My SP caught it all, and showed the episode run time as 1 hour, 6 minutes.

Worked perfectly. 1:06, no padding needed as I record/watch Life On Mars immediately following.

I will add I didn't realize it was running that long until I saw the progress bar while I was watching, but that's why we have TiVos.

So it looks like those who lost part of Lost (ahem) did so because they were trying to outsmart the TiVo (for whatever reason).

I guess the moral of the story is, if you're trying to outsmart the TiVo, be very careful!

Related question. I also recorded life on Mars after. Did it end on time? Was it only 54 mins including commercials this week? I haven't watched it yet, and didn't think to check last night.

Mine didn't. My new TivoHD got it all just fine. Right up to Bad Robot and the previews for next week. I think it cut off during the previews.

Yes, it was "short" (although I suspect they cut out commercials).

I pre and post pad Lost by 1 minute.

Just to pile on, my DTivo recorded it perfectly. I don't drive my Roomba around with the remote cleaning the carpet either. :)

I kind of doubt they cut commercials, but I haven't timed it. I'm way backed up on Life on Mars episodes, so I'll probably forget to do it, but it'd be cool for someone to figure out how much 'show' there was in that ep

My Comcast DVR recorded it perfectly as well without padding.
