Watching Phil Hartman's audition tape for Saturday Night Live is such a bittersweet experience. Mostly sweet.

I always get spooked out whenever they show Phil Harman's last SNL and they do the Sound of Music Skit and it ends with Hartman and Farley saying goodbye....

Great stuff. Phil is one of my all time SNL favorites. He had natural talent to the core.

Yet another reminder of how I wish his bitch of a wife had shot herself first.

What a waste of a talented comedian.

I can't watch the video :( -- but I did love Phil Hartman.

Sometimes when I am cooking and trying to "clean as I go," I think of the Anal Retentive Chef and laugh.

I had shrimp for dinner a few nights ago and thought of him as I put the shells into a ziploc bag to toss out!

BIH Andy Dick.

Uhh what? He's funny (at least sporadically).

Andy Dick got Brynn Hartman back onto Cocaine after she had been clean for years. She kill Phil and herself in a coke frenzy.

Jon Lovitz beat the even loving hell out of Andy Dick at some party they had both been invited to because of this.

A lot of people blame Andy Dick for Phil Hartman's death. I can't remember the specifics, but I think it had something to do with Dick giving Hartman's wife drugs when he knew she was an addict in recovery. She went on a bender and killed him and herself.

Andy Dick supposedly got Brynn, Phil Hartman's wife, re-hooked on cocaine. It was while high on cocaine that she shot and killed Phil Hartman (then eventually shot and killed herself).

It's not particularly a stretch to attribute some blame for his death on Andy Dick.

Wow I didn't know that! so he does live up to his last name. UGH what a loser!:down:

I also recall the story that Andy Dick bumped into Lovitz and said something about putting a "Hartman curse" on Lovitz, insisting that Lovitz was soon going to meet the same fate of Hartman.

This was prior to Lovitz beating the holy hell out of him.

The bit he did with Lovitz near the end, where he's a movie actor being fired by the studio head, actually became a sketch on SNL at some point, with most of those same lines being done verbatim.

I think it's probably an older sketch. In the audition video, it only took a moment of discussion for both to figure out what bit to do, which indicates to me that both were already familiar with it.

Oh, I'm sure it was something that they had done together in their pre-SNL days, but it did end up as an SNL sketch as well.

<off to google....>

Here we go. It was in the 10/18/1986 airing (http://snltranscripts.jt.org/86/86b.phtml).

I have a hard time holding anyone but Brynn Hartman responsible for her actions. I think if it hadn't been Andy Dick, it would have been someone else.

I miss Phil Hartman so much. SO much. I remember where I was when I heard he was dead and can still hear the voice from the radio in my head.

He's one of the few celebrities I still think about and my heart hurts just as much as it did the day it happened.

Those two were the best at playing "old-timey" actors and studio execs. Always loved those sketches.

My brother used to rent Phil Hartman cars when he was in NYC. Phil tried to get my brother to audition for SNL, but my sister in law wouldn't let him. Phil told my bro about his audition, and did the dialect thing for him.

Wow. I'm just watching the Sober House Finale, and Andy Dick said something that gave me chills. He said to a friend "you're my last friend. I've killed the rest of them. Literally killed them."

That was shocking.

I can think of Hartman and that guy from Suddenly Susan. I wonder who else?

EDIT: Misunderstood the last post.

Maybe those are the only friends he had.
