TiVo Series 3, Ethernet Networked
TiVo HD, Ethernet Networked

So, sometime last week I realize that I've got a pile of AVIs on my desktop that I'd like to view on the TV instead, and TiVo Desktop Plus can do this for me. I download 2.7 and install it, load up my videos and check out the TiVo S3...and am unable to see the video properties -- the 'Now Playing on (my computer)' group is blank. I do some quick research, uninstall, install 2.6 instead, and everything works fine. I put a file on to transfer overnight to the S3 and head to bed.

I get up the next morning and the file is transferred, this is good. However, I can no longer see the 'Now Playing on (My computer)' -- further investigation shows the TiVo S3 cannot connect on my home network any longer. I get a series of errors, usually unable to find a DHCP server or gateway. I try rebooting the TiVo, I try rebooting all my network hardware. I also try using the ethernet cable running to the TiVo on a laptop, where the connection works fine. To complicate the issue, my TiVo HD (on another floor of the house) is having exactly the same problem although no videos were sent to it.

I have multiple long discussions with TiVo Support that results in my trying a Wireless adapter on each TiVo (same errors) and eventually uninstalling TiVo Desktop. After doing that AND repeating the network portion of Gudied Setup AND setting static IP addresses, I'm able to get a connection that works sometimes over the ethernet cable. (Sometimes it locks up on the negotiating stage, but that appears to clear up).

So, on Monday, I reinstall TiVo Desktop Plus (2.7) and am able to see the videos listed. The TiVo is connecting fine to the network. Tuesday evening, I put two files in to transfer.

This morning, I check the S3 -- the second file has transferred to the S3, there is no sign of the first file. And... the TiVo is no longer able to connect to the network, same errors and symptoms I had before. I don't have time to check the HD box, but I assume the worst.

Any suggestions on fixing this would be greatly appreciated. TiVo Support seems to be out of ideas and I'm losing my mind.

Help help!

I know this won't solve your Tivo desktop issues, but have you considered using streambaby or other 3rd party software. Ive heard they are easier on your computer resources and most importantly, they are free to try. Good Luck.
