"One Tree Hill" and "America's Next Top Model" also will be returning for the 2009-10 season, joining a lineup that could include a "Melrose Place" remake and a spinoff of "Gossip Girl."

Wait, what? Smallville was renewed? I thought this was the final season? In fact, I stopped watching after this season's premiere, but have been saving up the episodes and figured I'd catch up this summer or something. But I was only sticking with the show because it was almost over and I had so much time invested. But if they're going to keep pushing back the ending and stringing the viewers along, I may just stop recording it all together and call it good.

Speaking of Reaper, it returns Tuesday, March 3. I hope it gets renewed.

Smallville has had some pretty good episodes this year. Not great ones but definitely better than most of the previous couple of seasons.
ETA: If Welling is back for a 9th season (which I don't see how they could renew if he was not returning) then he really needs to move much farther into being Superman. Even so far as to get a costume of some sort. Maybe not all the way to having the cape & tights. But it's definitely time his story moved to the next level.

"Likely indicates that Tom Welling will be back"???
I think that if they are going to renew it, then its a sure thing that he will be back.

Dammit. Every year, I stick with Smallville because I figure it has to be the last year and I might as well stick it out for one last season.
They did it to me again.

That's just dandy. If Smallville is back for a ninth season, this season now will go nowhere because they'll want to save up stuff for next year. Bleah.
Good to know Gossip Girl will be back, handing out the eye candy for another year.
Wouldn't mind if Privileged came back, either. Definitely better than 90210.

I keep TiVo'ing and watching Privileged, but I am not sure why. I'm kinda of meh to the whole show. If it doesn't come back, no loss. I won't miss it.

I wonder when the Premiere Dates thread will be updated ?
Just saying....

I admit I actually watch 90210 out of sheer boredom. It's not as good as the original but its watchable. Watched Smallville from the get go. Its hit or miss, usually miss.

I'm not sure how I feel about Smallville being renewed. On the one hand, it has been much better (even good at times) this season, but on the other hand, COME ON ALREADY. END IT.

So the next season will be more creatively bankrupt?

They ought to just shift away from 'Smallville' completely and rename the show 'Metropolis' !

Well, I'm finally deleting my Smallville SP... they won't drag me back in for yet another final season of this dreck.

Well, they won't have saved much since by now most if not all of this season has been written.
But I suspect they always planned on at least the possibility of the show going on. Too many shows have been burned in the past by their "last" seasons turning out to be not-so-last.

Glad to see OTH returning, though I admit the show has lost quite a bit of luster from its early days. The need to get Dan on a rampage again, since the basketball stories have been worn out beyond belief.

Smallville was renewed? There better not be any freakin' Lana next year. I'm warning them. I mean it.
I hope Reaper gets renewed. It's the best show that nobody watches.

Hopefully Smallville can move forward on the Lois and Clark relationship while expanding on his "Boy Scout" duties.

No flights, no tights. But a cane and walker are a possibility.

I like smallville this season, it's what it should have been doing all along.
I guess if Tom Welling doesn't come back, they can have other Smallville stories, like the trials of growing corn.

Privileged was still on? Wow, I was sure that was a goner after watching the first two episodes. Cute girls but the acting was god awful.

The "problem" with the CW is the exact "problem" that most people wish the other networks had: no viewers. On any of the big four networks, a show that only gets a couple million viewers (Smallville) would be a major flop and probably wouldn't make it through its first season. However, the bar is so low that a small contingent of fans, what would only be a "cult following" on the other networks, makes a show a bona fide hit on a "netlet" like the CW.
Maybe those of us who have complained about the early demise of certain shows on other networks (Firefly, Journeyman, etc.) should look at the problem from the other side. What if those shows had gone on so long that they wore out their welcome and drove all their viewers away?

Not sure which Smallville everyone else is watching, because the one I have been watching this season seems not much different (or better) than previous ones. Crap storylines, Clark forgets about everything else when Lana is in the room, LANA IS IN THE ROOM...

While I'll agree that Clark automatically drops 90 IQ points when Lana shows up (and he only had 80 left), to be fair she's only been in three episodes this season and probably won't be back.

Thanks for allaying my fears, JYoung. Last I watched, Lana was in some weird trance and I was hoping she'd be like that forever. When I read jking's post, that was the final straw that would have had me canceling the SP, but I suppose if she's only around a couple of times, I can live with that (maybe).

A couple of times is a couple of times too many, IMHO.

Oh, I totally agree. I'm just saying that if I know it's only a couple, I can prepare myself and get through it. I can't imagine what it must have been like for someone watching as they were aired and wondering if she was back for good when she first showed up this season.

Why is Reaper still up in the air? It's far and away the best show on that list.

Likely because they haven't aired an episode yet this season and want to see how this season's numbers look before they commit to a next season.
