Dubaku might be the dumbest criminal mastermind ever. Dude, there are other women out there. Get your butt to the airport.
When Agent Walker told Jack she'd read his file, I wished he'd said that she didn't know anything and then listed all the ways he's saved the country the last couple of years and then showed her his whip scars.
What role did FBI analyst Pruneface play in Dubaku's plot? Her name was on the list but what did she do?
Can you just order a paramedic to cut someone open to retrieve a device? Especially when nobody knows who you are and you have no id saying you're important? Is that illegal search and seizure or something?

Wow! I keep a list of everyone on my payroll in a chip beneath my skin too!
If you were the President and someone told you they had a list of 100 gov't employees who were in on this plot, wouldn't your first question be, "Is there anyone close to me on the list - Secret Service, Staff, Cabinet members, etc.?"
I fully expected Dubaku to be gone after Jack helped rescue the girlfriend. Also there was no need for her to die. She had no more information to pass on. Maybe the sister is going to turn bad now.

Seriously, a chip under the skin? How often does he extract it to update the data?
Even in Jack land, that one is a stretch. Not as big as erasing dozens of servers in 10 seconds but the computer stuff is always wrong. I mean, who really opens a socket? :D
And the Sen's aide who is on the list... How many milliseconds before he gets arrested if he is on the list.
And the previews? Seriously, the WH must be the least secure building in DC, go to the IHOP at least there you'd get free pancakes!

So it seems like Walker is truly ready to snap. It was kind of chilling when she told Jack that she was ready to use her gun him.
I totally expected that when Jack left Dubaku to help Walker that he would get away. I was SHOCKED when he was still laying there on the pavement.

I think he only put it there recently to ensure that he could make it out of the country safely once everything went down. I don't think it was under his skin while he was gathering all the data, particularly since this chip was a "read-once" chip.

What happened to Angelina Jolie's dad? He showed up in the first couple of episodes this season, then disappeared. You know that a minor African warlord could cause this much corruption in the US government. However, if you saw the previews of next week's episode, it does look like the warlord plot is going to continue at a least a little longer.

I'm not sure what I could add to the thoughts above really, as the discussion has covered much of what I've thought about how the season and episodes have been going. I guess the one thing that does spring to mind is how the commercials (yes, I see those every now and then) and previews of what was coming on this episode that had been airing throughout the last week were fairly true to what was promised... they kept touting an episode that changes everything, and by the end, well, everything had changed and there was the nice reappearance of Tony to move us into the next phase of things.
I am looking forward to the next 2 hours. It should be a nice jump along in the story lines
also, I usually can put the unrealistic stuff aside, but are you telling me there were no cameras in the server room??!! the FBI mole had video shots of everywhere else in the building so he could see when they were coming, but he thought his story would just be believed??
Also, if they took any prints from the gun, they wouldn't have found the girl's prints on them..

That would produce little workable evidence. The magazine is plastic with an anti-print surface. Most of the rest of the gun has a similar finish. The only practical/meaningful place to look would have been the bullets in the mag, which would have most likely had the guy's prints. Since he grappled the gun from her, after she shot it, any of her prints (missing) would have been considered the result of him handling/smudging them away. But hey, this is 24 and we're discussing it way too far.
But as far as him not taking the day off after being shot... well duh!!! he still had to TCB. :D

An "anti-fingerprint" finish actually hold fingerprints quite well - such a finish means it is resistant to corrosion caused by oils and acids left by contact with skin. A highly textured grip might make it tough to lift prints from but the magazine (metal or plastic) and slide should be easy targets for CSI. And, unless the guy-mole claims to have wiped the gun clean after he wrestled it away from girl-mole but before he shot her the absence of her fingerprints would be suspiscious, even to the FBI of the world of 24.

LOL. I wonder if this is a storytelling device. Set up a very cliched situation, and then don't do it, and the audience gives you credit for not doing the obvious that happens in every other TV show/movie.

This is one of the several problems I had with this episode. Am I the only person who was sorely disappointed in it overall? I thought it was the worst of the season and the previous for next week don't instill much confidence in me.
I'm a big 24 fan, but I'm finding it very difficult now suspending my disbelief.
The trusting the random FBI guy was pretty big to me.
I question the legitimacy of this self-erasing storage device. Maybe this technology is just top secret or something, but I don't see how it's possible that once you get the data off of it, it knows to erase itself. How does it know you copied everything off? If it erased itself after being unplugged, it would need its own CPU to do that.
Even if we believe that they could erase every hard drive on the FBI network by "crashing the servers" (I could only see this from a security standpoint of the network being compromised), why was Chloe on the network to copy data off a storage device? They know that someone was listening in on them because they knew about Jack and Rack, so why did she plug into the network?
Agent Moss was too accepting and trusting of the mole. He knew there was probably another mole but he didn't question that dude as being one?
I know they've done it before, but I hate when they sow up these story arcs like this to pull out the terrorists' plan D.
I wasn't happy with Rack Bauer's acting this episode. I wasn't convinced by her line that she was prepared to shoot Jack, even if it was a cool line. Her questioning of Jack's methods have dragged on a little too long.
How did Tony find Jack? Why was he randomly just sitting out in the open like that?
I want to believe everything the show is telling me, but it's getting too ridiculous.

For the 24verse I was surprised by the memory chip story mini-arc.
Normally I would have expected that they wouldn't have gotten the data from the card one way or another so when the reformatting (LOL) destroyed the information I figured that was the end of the normal arc, but then Cloie's sudden recollection of the data mirror saving the day caught me off guard.
So in the sense of being surprised, I liked the arc of the story.

Your post reminded me: I loved how when Jack pulled out the chip from Dubaku and got on the phone, he said he'd never seen anything like it and therefore couldn't upload the data.
But as soon as Chloe sees it, not only did she know exactly what kind of card it was, but she had a reader for it RIGHT ON HER DESK! And we're not talking about a real desk where a techy like her would have access to every device known to man, but a temporary workstation set up in the conference room by a guy who doesn't even know how to properly set up his own network.

Actually Chloe making a backup of the critical data they could only retrieve one time was the most realistically intelligent thing they've done on this show in a while. Then they turn around and ruin it by explaining that the backup was being decrypted the whole time. Man! Tonight I finally got around to watching last week's Lost episode and then spent an hour reading through the Episode Thread here. Then I watched last weeks 24 and read this thread. What a difference. I enjoy both shows, buy my how they are so different in quality.
The Lost Thread consists of constant interpretations, theories and conclusions. This one concentrates on the actors/actresses and general discussion. I think it just shows how thin and shallow the plots are on 24 anymore, and how convoluted and twisted the Lost plots are.
Like I said, I enjoy both Series and like hearing the comments here, but they are really different.
