View Full Version : Roxio Creator 2009 hangs when converting some .tivo files

I'm guessing the answer to my question is that I wasted money on Creator 2009, but I thought I'd give this forum a shot to see if someone might have any thoughts...

Running Windows XP SP 3. Just installed on a new I7 with 1GB ATI card, so plenty of horsepower. Installed Roxio Creator 2009 and then its SP 3.

I am converting .tivo files with Roxio so I can burn them to DVD.

Some .tivo files burn with no issues.

Some I noticed come up with the wrong length when I drag them into the Roxio app. Re-transferring those with Tivo 2 Go seems to fix that, so apparently Tivo 2 Go doesn't do any kind of error checking on the files it transfers.

There are some .tivo shows that I just can not get to convert. Roxio will start the conversion progress and then just hang. It never errors out, just hangs. The logs just show it going up to whatever percentage it hung at. The program is still responsive. Re-transferring the show does nothing.

So it sounds like there is some kind of corruption in the .tivo file itself.

The files play fine on the Tivo.

Just to be on the safe side, I did kickstarts 53, 54, 57, 58 and even a 52 on the Tivo itself, didn't make a difference.

The hard drive in the Tivo was just installed in September, so it should be fine, and if there were a problem with it, kickstart 54 should have found something.

I think the only things that would help me are:

1) Tivo building error checking into the Tivo 2 Go software
2) Roxio fixing their conversion software to include error checking
or since 1 or 2 are not likely to happen...
3) Some kind of utility that checks .tivo files for errors

Any thoughts anyone may have on this are appreciated.
