Must be missing something basic here. Have optical audio out from Tivo to receiver, but there's no sound from the receiver unless the TV is powered on. How do I get sound with the TV off? (for digital music channels, etc) Thanks!

What are the rest of your connections? Are you using HDMI? Does the video run through the receiver, too? Using any of the analog outputs on the TiVo?

If you are running HDMI through your receiver, then it is possible that is defaulting to HDMI audio and muting the audio when your TV is off.

When you have both HDMI and optical connected to a receiver, there is usually a receiver setup option to pick which connection you want to use.

HDMI > TV

Optical Audio > Receiver

Analog (RCA) Audio > DVD

S-Video > Receiver

Analog (RCA) Video > Receiver

Receiver S-Video > TV

When the TV is off, try unplugging the HDMI from one end or the other. I have a similar setup, with HDMI to the TV and optical to the receiver. I don't listen to the music channels, so have not tested the sound with the TV off. I can if it would help your debugging effort.

HDMI > TV

Optical Audio > Receiver

Analog (RCA) Audio > DVD

S-Video > Receiver

Analog (RCA) Video > Receiver

Receiver S-Video > TV

Why do you have both composite and s-video running to the receiver? I'd suggest eliminating the composite (RCA) video connection. In some systems, using both can lead to problems.

Unplugging HDMI from the TV did the trick. Not sure why this should interfere with audio to the receiver - any ideas?

Thanks everyone.
