L1 is line one input on a TV.

The question as stated doesn't make any sense. You feed the output of some source device into that input on the TV to display it, you don't record off of it as it's an input not an output. The PTV300 (series 1 Tivo) records off of its own analog NTSC tuner fed by cable or antenna (antenna ceasing to be an option after analog shutoff coming soon, already here in some areas), or off of the PVR's AV input. That AV input can be connected to the output of a cable box or satellite receiver. Off-the-air DTV converters aren't officially supported on series 1 but with certain models you can get some limited functionality, search this forum for workarounds.
