Guys, I may of mentioned this before, but I see people are worried about getting a lifetime sub in case the service folds/fails? Someone said in the no of uk users that if tivo could guarantee the data will still be flowing in 20 months time they would get a lifetime service.

I know Sky/Tivo customer services will take the £199 via credit card, so could it not be argued with the credit card company that the service they have paid for has not been delivered as tivo uk have ceased (if they did) and a refund from the liable credit card company would have to be issued??

I've certainly seen that suggested on here before but, obviously, as TiVo have never ceased service in the UK no-one's been able to put it to the test :)

The only potential pitfall that I can see is that the fee is for a conceptual 'lifetime' and not for 20months. While we can make the logical implication that we've 'broken even' after 20months (given the £10-per-month alternative) there's nothing to state that the fee is for that length of time, so I imagine that a particularly awkward CC company could wangle out of it.

I'm not a lawyer, blah blah, yadda yadda...

Since Tivos with lifetime subs seem to sell on ebay for less than £199, it makes sense for anyone wanting to upgrade to lifetime to bin their existing Tivo and buy another one ready-subbed.

If you want to keep your recordings, etc, just put the hard drive from your existing Tivo into the new lifetime subbed one.

And your Cachecard or Turbonet card should be transferred across too if you have one?
