You can check the warranty status of a Samsung drive yourself at http://www.rexo.co.uk which is also where you'll need to go to get an RMA.

My two Samsung HA250JCs are 7 months out of their 36 month warranty now.

It remains to be seen if they will last the full 5 years that they would still have been guaranteed for if I had bought Seagate drives in the days when blindlemon was enthusing about them rather than shunning them.;)

However, the firmware problems that mean you can't use two in a TiVo and which sometimes aggravate the 'helium sound' problem, plus the fact that they don't run particularly cool or quiet has put me off them a bit. I still have a load in my other computers though and, strangely, they seem more robust in that environment than equivalent sized Samsung drives. So I guess it's horses for courses really....

Of course, these days the only real option for large upgrades is a SATA drive and the WD Green power are proving to be pretty TiVo friendly as long as you use the right sort of IDE-SATA converter.
