I hope this is the right place to ask this.

I have a Toshiba SDH400 someone gave me which I have been using just as a DVD player. I don't even watch Television. Well it's stuck on the welcome screen and it seems that it would require a new HD. Buying a new HD when I don't even use the TiVo feature would be pointless. Is there some way I can disable the TiVo features and just use this thing as a DVD player?

Thank You :)

My guess is the internal disk drive has a problem (there have been many, many reports of dead drives in these older models over the past few months - I replaced the drive in mine some time ago). Since this model TiVo can be used without a monthly subscription, it has value on eBay - a replacement drive can be had already loaded with software from www.weaknees.com or other sources (even cheaper to do it yourself if you are technically inclined).

If you only need a DVD player, I would just get a new inexpensive one at Kmart and sell or give away the SDH400 to someone that is willing to spend a little to get a working TiVo.
