I'm looking for some advice on which direction to go. I have had an issue with DirecTV misapplying a payment back in November for $70, they credited an older account that belonged to my better half. I called them and they debited the old acct but never applied it to the correct acct.

So after almost 4 months, 15 calls (4 hours of hold and investigating time), and endless promises that it will be done in a few days we are in the same position. Now the reason it is a problem is they continue to turn my service off because I am 'behind' in my payments. I refuse to pay forward the amount they cant seem to find and apply.

I now realize that I cannot afford to do nothing because I cannot speak to anyone at DTV that can get this corrected. I am at the point that I feel I must close my account with the exact balance of the misapplied payment and have my partner open another acct. She has done this before years ago when we wanted the new equipment for the 24 month contract..

Finally the question, should I get new equipment that may be included in the new contract or reuse my existing. I have a HR10-250 HD, although I get the HD over the air at the moment and a DSR704, which I added an extra drive to years ago.

I have heard that the TIVO software is superior to the DTV DVR. I know I like being able to record on two channels and watch a recorded item, which when speaking to a DTV rep a year ago told me the DTV DVR cannot do. We definitely use all four available receiver channels to record at certain times.

Also as a consideration is what package we go to. I beleive we are still on Total Choice, which is a grandfathered in package since we have had service for so long. I thought the Choice XTRA looked liked a good one because there are HD channels included in it. We definitely would like to keep the cost pretty comparable to previously which as stated was approx $70 a month all tax included.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Don't you think that you may get better info in the DirectTV-TiVo forum?

All the DirecTV DVRs can record two shows at the same time while you watch a third pre-recorded show - same as your HR10. This has always been the case.

Lots of threads in the DirecTV-TiVo forum sections with opinions from people who have had both kinds of boxes, such as me.
