I am new to TiVo and live in the San Jose CA area. I do not have either cable or direct tv service.

Is there another way to route CNN.com news, TV or podcasts or RSS feeds into my HD TiVo every day? Thank you for any suggestions here.

They do have very small CNN videocasts for TiVo. I would call them video snippets. I forget all of them but the one that I signed up to is called "In Case You Missed It" Its about 4-5 minutes long and has a quick rundown of the day's top stories. They have others to about political, absurd news, and more I believe.

Update: Also, if you are somewhat computer savvy, look into a program called PyTivo. I cant really explain it other then it will stream almost any type of video file/codec to your tivo. So, if you can find on the actual 'Net downloadable video content from CNN, you should be able to watch it in your TiVo with PyTiVo

I tried subscribing to the CNN podcasts via TivoCast, but by the time they were delivered, the news was obsolete. I really wish I could stream the live internet video from cnn.com to my Tivo instead of just download/copy podcast files, but I cannot figure out how to do that.

Look at the streamer apps over in the home media forum.

You are surely looking for HME/VLC. See my sig. I have four (part-time) live streams from CNN.com in my default config, along with other news streams and RSS feeds.

Hello WMCBRINE,

Thank you for your very experienced explanation. I am not a programmer so it is a little hard for me to put together the ideas you explained. Please let me ask if there is a way to make the TiVo Desktop Plus software do some of this work?

If I subscribe to the CNN.COM video podcasts and they are downloaded to my computer can I also inform the TiVo Desktop software to automatically pick the (mp4s? whatever) up or do I need the Python streaming video utility to enable Desktop to do this work?

Would it be worthwhile for you to put together something market ready?

thank you again.

I was more addressing johnny99, when he said "I really wish I could stream the live internet video from cnn.com to my Tivo".

or do I need the Python streaming video utility to enable Desktop to do this work?

Would it be worthwhile for you to put together something market ready?I'm not sure what "market ready" means. I think HME/VLC is already very easy to install and use. I'm sorry if you don't find it so. If you have specific questions about the installation, I'll be happy to address them in the HME/VLC thread.

HME/VLC does not make use of TiVo Desktop in any way.
