what is the diferent "a" software

As above had a TiVo since the start and still don't know what exactly does it do over the standard one :o
I am still on the standard software 2.5.5

It actually does less than 255.
It's basically a version with the teletext support removed,
as this caused problems with a few Sony TVs.

You can essentially convert a 2.5.5 image into a 2.5.5a image and vice versa with the change of one file (two files and a DB write if you want to be thorough).
