I'm using Windows Xp, Desktop 2.6.2 and also 2.7 with TivoHD 3 anda Belkin wireless router; wireless Tivo adapter.

The router is currently working fine, and i can get the internet from my computer, and the TIVO can connect to get its updates.

I also see that the router provide the IP address for both the computer and Tivo.

Desktop 2.6.2 and 2.7 can see the TIvo IP address. but when i try to transfer the videos from the tivo to pc it gives me an error or DVR not avilalbe.

When i goto the TIVO and look at the music and photos, i also see the computer IP, but cannot access the files.

Am i missing a setting on the router? or the OS?
Can anyone provide me with some help, getting really frustrated.

on a side note which was strange , i've was able to connect via Ethernet (crossover cable attached to a cross over cable ) to the router and my computer and Tivo sporadically connected. but the transfer of videos was unbearably slow.

You have both 2.62 and 2.7 installed on your computer? Uninstall 2.62. HD transfers from tivo to PC can take longer then real time. It can take 1- 1 1/2 hours to transfer a one hour HD show.

Try to run a long CAT 5 patch cable from tivo to your router. Using two crossover cables with connector is adding an additional variable to troubleshoot.

Lew,

I've uninstalled 2.6.2 when i installed 2.7. I've transfered standard videos, not the HD ones.

But my problems is that the computer and Tivo is not talking to each other via (tivo wireless and the computer hardwire to router).

I've removed the crossover cable when i got the wireless usb.

I will try a straight patch from tivo to router tonight, and see what happen.

Wireless G is subject to interference with some wireless phones, microwave ovens and many other items. Promised range is often very optimistic. Sometimes moving the adapter a short distance makes a dramatic difference. It's also possible you have a defective adapter.

That's why I suggested trying a patch cable first. Also (temporarily) disable/unload any anti-virus and firewall programs on your computer. Some versions of some AV programs cause issues with transfers.

I will patch tonight.
The only firewall i know of it windows itself and am also using Aset Antivirus ver 3.0. I'll let you know what comes up.

Is there some basic settings on the router and computer i should check for wireless connectivity?

The signal strength for the usb is coming in at round 78-85db.

If you "tweaked" any router or computer network settings you might want to go back to the default settings. I'm not familair with your AV program but temporarily turnning it off, as well as Windows Firewall, will eliminate one variable

ok i patch the Tivo directly to the router, and the back of the tivo orange light kept flashing. my computer did not see the tivo at all, this time there was no IP address for the tivo. I've turned off the windows firewall, and AV still nothing.
I disconnect the patch and reconnect the wireless adapter, it see the tivo ip adress 192.168.2.3 When i run the desktop to transfer files it says "there is an error while atttempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR. TIVO desktop is unable to contact the DVR. this could be due to network problems, or the DVR might not be set to allow transfers....." I've check the setting on the DVR to allow transfers.
The Tivo software version is 11.0-01-2-652. any ideas?

When you look at the TiVo Server Properties dialog what does it show as the IP address that Desktop is using? From the address of your DVR it should be 192.168.2.something. If you have multiple NICs Desktop will almost always pick the wrong one.

DVR might not be set to allow transfers

I assume you went to tivo.com and activated TTG (or MRV I don't remember what it's called). Are you sure you correctly typed the MAK number in tivodesktop. Double check the number, I don't remember which screen on your tivo shows your MAK number.

Also double check and make sure you don't have the same IP address set to two different devices. Is everything DHCP or do you have any static stettings?

ggieseke,
The TIvo server shows the correct ip adrees on the tivo 192.168.2.3 which is on the tivo and on the desktop server.

Lew,

Everything is on DHCP. I've also enables a bunch of ports (TCP/UPN) don't remember the #'s but i got it from the Tivo site, under network problems. Still does not talk to each other. Does it matter if theNIC on the PC is ehternet based? and TIVO is wireless? do think it should mattter.
So here's what iv'e done so far: turn off firewall in windows, thurned off Antivirus, tried direct pactch cable from TIVO to router: this scenero did not yeild a IP address from the router.
The wireless adpater allows the router to give IP address to TIVO, Tivo is also able to connect to guide services for updates.
I can't remember what was the diagnostics for the network setting to see if the ports were ok. I'll so that tonight.

I thinking it maybe a setting on the OS for a wireless network, or one in the router.

Peter

Peter--your network connection is working since tivo can connect and get guide data.

I suspect a typo with your MAK number.

I'm confused - are you saying that both your TiVo and your PC are on 192.168.2.3?

Well, there goes that theory. You might want to check your router to see if it has a security feature to block multicast broadcast packets. If it does, make sure that it's turned off.

Almost forgot - sometimes the internal web server on the TiVo locks up. A reboot will fix it.

Do you have tivo desktop software installed on more then one computer on your network. After you double check your MAK reboot everything. Your router, then tivo then computer.

What /where can i find the setting of multicast broadcast packets? what type of service(tab) is it under (ie: wireless, settings, DMZ)?

Lew,

I have the desktop on 2 computers, but only one version of the desktop can be used at tme. it seems tivo know which (1) computer to talk to.

I will try and do a full reset tonight. have my fingers crossed.
