I am new to the TIVO community having recieved one for Christmas. I also have a new HD tv. My question is when i had the TV search for digital channels I found none. This was done with the TiVo inconnected. What have I missed? The cable co. I am using is Comcast. Thanks in advance,

You want to search for digital channels on the TiVo, not the tv. if you want to find them on the tv you need to split your cable signal and have the second input going directly into the tv.

Thanks lifeisabeach. I'll try that.

Uh you might want to specify which model Tivo you have and which model TV you have, and possibly your city. If it's not a TivoHD or series 3, you won't be able to pick up digital channels on the Tivo. And your TV might not have a QAM tuner though most new ones do.

You do want to split the cable and run one directly to the TV. Also make sure the TV's tuner is set to "cable" mode, not "air / over-the-air / OTA" mode.

A Series 2 has absolutely no ability to receive or record a digital signal. You can put a cable box behind it which translates digital to analog which it can record but that will never give you HD. Additionally, the Series 2 can not transmit digitally - all of its outputs are analog.

If you want HD on a TiVo, you have to buy a TiVo Series 3 or TiVo HD.
