Hi
Brother asked me this and i don't know.
He has a 120Gb tivo that he doesn't use any more with monthly sub, now he has just bought a 40Gb lifetime sub tivo, can he simply swap drives and do a reset on the the 120gb lifetime sub one?
also if he buys hooch can it run from a sata cd drive?
Thanks
Robert

The subscription is tied to the motherboard not the drive. The software and all the settings are stored on the hard drive so putting the 120GB drive in the lifetime machine will work with all his settings in place.

he simply swap drives and do a reset on the the 120gb lifetime sub one?If both TiVos are running the same software version yes. However, if the 120gb drive has 2.5.5a and the other TiVo has 2.5.5 then you will need to reconfigure the drive with 2.5.5 or ask TiVo CS to upgrade the other TiVo to 2.5.5a as otherwise the TiVo will try to 'downgrade' itself every night messing up the daily call and you will only be able to get guide data by redoing Guided Setup.

also if he buys hooch can it run from a sata cd drive?I don't have a SATA PC so I can't say. However, if the PC can boot from the CD drive and the connected SATA drives show up as hda/hdb/hdc etc. under linux then it should work. Your safest bet though is to use an old PC with standard IDE interfaces.
