I have had my Tivo series 2 now for a year or two with no problems.
Today I installed /upgraded the Charter cable box so we could get HD (the cable box is a DCH6200)
I thought everything was hooked up right and was working until I tried recording something.
We set up to record "24" on channel 787 (or whatever). We checked it twice to make sure the time/date and channel were correct.
We then watched another HD station (like 786) while it was recording.
When we went to watch the recorded "24" we found out that it didn't record "24". Instead it recorded what we were watching.
Any suggestions on why this happened?
Earlier in the day I "checked" things out to see if it would record right and everything I did seemed to be okay.
I am stuck now and need a little help.
Thank you

The Series 1 and Series 2 TiVo units cannot record from more than one digital channel at a time. That includes the Series 2 Dual Tuner unit, which can only record two analog channels, or one analog and one digital channel at the same time. In the US and Canada, the HD channels are all digital.
With digital channels, whatever the box is tuned to is what the TiVo will record, no matter what the To Do List says. So if the channel is changed either intentionally or accidentally after the TiVo has sent its own channel changing code to the box, you will end up recording whatever the new channel is.
If you want to be able to tune two digital channels simultaneously, your only real option is to get one of the Series 3 models and CableCard(s) from your cable provider. Or use the crummy cable company DVR.

Basically what you did was change the channel while it was recording that other channel off the cable box. The S2 can only record 1 channel at a time, and that is from the cable box, according to your setup. However, you can watch another recorded show off the tivo while its recording another.
If you like to watch TV while the tivo is recording another, you can get another cable box and then split the cable from the wall-side to go into the 2 cable boxes, and 1 box going to the Tivo, the other directly to the TV.
The S3/HD/XL models can record 2 channels at once without cable boxes, with mix and match OTA and cable, but digital cable requires cable cards.
