Hi Folks,
I'm sure this has been covered many times but I need a quick definitive answer:

I have a UK tivo but it has been gathering dust in London as for the last 18 months I have been living in the beautiful PNW of America.

Here I have a networked dual-tuner Series 2 Tivo and love the better features.

I am returning to the UK permanently in the next few weeks and would like to know is there any way to make the US Tivo useful in the UK (or I cud take it to my mum in Australia).

Thanx in advance

I remember hearing something about it being possible to get a UK TiVo working (via lots of hacks) in Oz, but this was before Oz had a TiVo. But I am not aware of how you would get a US Tivo to work in the UK.

I was told by someone in the know that an S2 Tivo can be made to work in the UK but just not legally since doing so would involve changing its identity to that of a UK S1 Tivo. Also unlike a UK S1 Tivo changing its identity actually involves changing actual chips on the motherboard. Not to mention overcoming obstacles like lack of SCART sockets etc, etc to connect to Sky Digiboxes and of course getting the unit to work with PAL rather than NTSC signals.

So it can't actually practically be done because you have to violate Tivo's terms and conditions and start using soldering irons in order to achieve the intended goal.

Thanx for the info guys. It would have been a struggle to get back across the pond.

Wonder what the re-sale value is. :)
