Well...
they did make it to earth when they caused the JFK assassination... Just obviously in a
different TIME.

Correction, they caused the abortion of the JFK assassination as we know it.
Leaving Lister to arrange for the replacement timeline JFK to go behind the grassy knoll and assassinate himself.

It's great to see they got the original cast back together. One of the great shows and I've missed Lister and Rimmer and the gang.

Finally! It seems like they've been talking about this forever!
Wasn't it at one point supposed to be a major motion picture?

I don't know about "major", but there were plans for a feature film, yes.

Can't wait.
One of my favorite British shows after Who and Python.

I loved Red Dwarf but I'm not sure I want to see these guys twenty years older, playing the same roles. It'll be like watching the original cast Star Trek movies. I'll watch, though.

It was supposed to be "major" with, at the time, Eddie Murphy attached. But the creators didn't want to recast all of the major roles.
If you read the books, the earth was the ice ball the lister and rimmer were marooned on.

Well, there was one version that was a motion picture with the original cast involved. I believe that one got as far as sets starting to be constructed and a full table read including the whole cast.

I thought everyone was killed in the final episode?
Or am I confusing RD with Blakes' 7?

Ya. Blakes 7. I just finished watching all those about a month ago. Great series.

I seem to recall the season ended with:
Rimmer has a plan for saving the day, but fails. Death comes for Rimmer. Rimmer kicks death in the nuts, and runs away. Thus leaving his fate somewhat open-ended...

I want Blake's 7 on DVD.. Though I don't re-watch shows often, I would buy the DVDs (at a reasonable price). Blake's 7 is one of the few shows close to as good as Star Trek.. (I don't own Trek on DVD since it's _not_ reasonably priced.)
You need to read "Afterlife", BTW. You are reading too much into what happened... Plus, you spoiled the whole thing. (Best last episode ever, though.)

I found it to be quite good.....
I thought it would go downhill when Blake left the series but it was still very good up to and including the end.
I suspect that's not what you meant however.
Umm.. bit something........ or something.......
First 3 seasons are up in dvd quality. Last one was lesser but still very good quality.
I use Beyond TV so just copied the avi files to BTV and watched on the TV. I think tivo has a similar function for external files but I'm not familiar with it.

Blake's 7 is available on DVD in Europe, if you have one of those lowbrow DVD players with the "hidden menu" that lets you change the region number to 2. However, forget about "reasonably priced"; DVDs of BBC shows are notoriously overpriced, both in Europe and in the USA. For example, Amazon.com has the four-disc Blackadder set for $60; the complete Blake's 7 has 20 DVDs!)
One note about the last Blake's 7 episode:
Terry Nation once said that the last episode was written with the possibility that at least some of the crew would survive - you never actually see the shots that kill, say, Vila and Tarrant, and the shots at the end are heard over the closing credits.

There will be four shows, apparently.
Here's some more information (you'll need sound and the ability to watch some clips).

For those interested in (slight) spoilers who are unable to watch...
They will be on earth in the current time for at least part of the show. There are scenes filmed at the Rover's Return pub on Coronation Street (the longest running soap on Brit TV) and, I'm sure, many more inside Brit jokes.
Sadly, no sign of Chloe Annett anywhere :(
First episode will air on Dave on Good Friday.
ETA: For those who think it's a bunch of old men, they actually don't look any different in makeup!

I don't remember the original RD ever being on BBC America - this seems like the kind of thing BBC would distribute to PBS stations (like they did with the recent As Time Goes By reunion episode) so they can air them with lengthy breaks between episodes (if it's only four episodes, almost certainly they would air in a single night) so you can be reminded to send in your money.

Red Dwarf, when new, was shown on PBS. However, BBCA did show the episodes several years ago with commercial breaks. Who knows if the US can get them anywhere but torrents.

Red Dwarf is airing these days on an Illinois PBS station in a college town.

As it is a multi part story screened over this weekend, I'm guessing that many TCF'ers will be watching it after they obtain the final part when it airs on Sunday.
