By Patrick Lee

ABC has given a pilot order to V, a reimagining of the 1980s miniseries about an alien invasion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written on spec by The 4400 co-creator/executive producer Scott Peters, the new V will center on a female Homeland Security agent.

Peters is executive-producing the pilot with HDFilms principal Jason Hall.

This is the second ABC pilot picked up so far based on a 1980s property; the first was The Witches of Eastwick. Both are being produced by Warner Brothers TV.

It's unclear if this proposed series has anything to do with original V creator Kenneth Johnson's sequel novel, V: The Second Generation, or his proposed reboot series or a proposed spinoff series by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski.

Time to check JMSNews! If JMS is involved, I'm there.

As much as I hate the lack of originality shown here, this could work. While I don't watch either regularly, the new Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica shows are well done. (I intend to watch the latter on DVD at some point.. I've seen a bunch of the former sporadically.)

Then again, it could be another Night Rider. I watched the movie, and thought it wasn't horrible, but just never bothered with the new series -- I think because there were too many conflicts on at that time...

This is actually old news and totally seperate from Kenneth Johnson's sequel story which had been greenlit by NBC. He is not involved in this one.

What made this current news is that the network ordered a pilot. In other words their spending some money. Up until now things where just in "development". Just on paper.
