Temporary Service on New Tivo Units?

Do new Tivo HD units come with temporary service? If so, how long is the temporary service? I skipped activation on setup and was surprised to find Tivo service (program guides, wish lists, etc.) although Video on Demand was not working.

i've set up a TiVo for a friend who was on vacation recently and the "grace period" to activate was only 48 hours.

If the TiVo has never been set up in the past you will get 7 days of use, not full use but you will be able to set up recordings, MRV and VOD will not work, and (this is important) you can't order pizza so if you can go a week without pizza you will be in good shape.
