Picture distorts when going into Tivo menus?

When I press the Tivo button to go into the tivo menus the picture distorts it almost looks like if I had pressed the degaus (sp) button. It has done it since new(refurb) but lately it has been getting stuck there longer. It's showing the tivo main screen just multiple images of it and it squigles across the screen. dosn't do it when going out of the menus or changing channels. Any ideas?

sounds like a video 'sync' issue, to fix you may have to set your TiVo to a 'fixed' output display to match your TVs resolution. (1080i fixed, 720p fixed)

Do you have your aspect set on zoom? I've had this happen when going from a zoomed aspect back to the tivo central. Try changing the aspect to full and hit the tivo button to see if you get the same distortion

You know your stuff, thanks. I checked, I had it set to full already(zoom looks funny) but I had it set to native on the display setting, I switched it to 1080I fixed and the problem went away. Thanks, I was starting to think that I had a bad unit.

You are only masking the issue, not solving it

It sounds to me like your display is going bad.

Explain? if by display I assume you mean my TV, I highly doubt it.

It's either the TV or the TiVo. Find another device which can change resolutions on command and test it.

Some TVs -- especially older models -- just don't handle resolution switching very well.

Yeah it's an old samsung pedestal (5085) it's about 4 years old and a 5 year old design, anique by todays standards, I mean it's only a 1080I capable set! hehe. tks.
