If I buy the approved WD 500 GB MyDVR drive and later upgrade to a 1 TB if and when they've been released and approved, will I be able to reformat and use the 500 GB with my PC? I know any programs recorded are gone, that's not the issue. I just want to make sure I'm not throwing away money and a 500 GB drive should I choose to buy one for the sake of upgrading to 1 TB. If so, I'll wait and buy the bigger drive.
Many Thanks,
John

I don't want to disconnect mine to test it (since it'd likely mess up my recorded shows); but I can't imagine this would be a problem. Assuming, of course, you've got an eSATA adapter on your PC.
Addendum: From the FAQ for this specific drive on Western Digital's website:
Q:What will happen if the DVR Expander is plugged into a computer?
A: You cannot view the recorded content on your DVR Expander if you connect it to a computer. To use the DVR Expander with a computer, you must first reformat it, which erases all its current contents.
So I'd say that's a pretty definite "yes".

Yes, you can use the 500GB My Expander with your PC later.

WG,
Thanks for the rapid response :)
I did try to do a search before my post. Damned if I didn't come up with a good set of keywords that got me the answer I needed.

Your PC needs an eSATA interface - as that's the only interface on the WD 500 GB MyDVR drive.
