Hi, first-post newbie here! Enjoying the Tivo but my wife is working thru TV/VCR combo withdrawal and has an issue with the Tivo. On the TV/VCR she is used to stopping the VCR recording and immediately seeing live TV. Then she just presses one button, play, and whatever recording she was watching starts up again. Is there a similar feature on the Tivo? It seems that if you are watching a recording on Tivo, you press Live TV and get Live TV (which pauses whatever recording you were watching), but you can't go back to the recording you were watching without entering Tivo Central and going thru the menus. She is looking for a one-button solution. I glanced thru the instruction booklet and did a cursory web search but didn't see anything on this. Thanks for help!

On the TiVo HD, in live TV mode you can just hit the TiVo button twice quickly, and it takes you right to Now Playing.
Yes, you do have to pick which recorded show to watch, but think of it as a VCR that can have several tapes in it at once.

As you said, if you press Live TV from a recording it will pause the program there. When you're ready to go back to the recording press the left arrow and it will take you to the info screen for the recording you had paused and you can resume playing there. Not a one button solution but it is just two buttons.
Hit the menu button twice then the play button.

Grey Griffin, thanks! I just tried this method and it works well. I'll see how the wife likes it.

I believe this works as long as you're not recording the show you jumped to live TV on. That is, if you're watching Live TV and you hit the left arrow while the show you're watching is being recorded, then you go to the recording options/info of the show you're recording.
I use this to stop recording of sports programs that I normally add 1hr too (3hrs in case of NASCAR race) and I get to the end of watching it before the recording has stopped. Left Arrow, select Stop Recording.

Hit the menu button twice then the play button.
unless the show is in a folder in which case you need to hit select to go into the folder.
The left arrow is what I use if I am going back and forth much as it is the most efficient. However I do not jump out much to live TV anymore As I even record the news and can finish up what I am watching and then go to the news. ;)

Wait what? People with TiVo's still watch live TV. I don't watch live TV with the small exception of a sports event.

I watch news in live mode every morning. Also at other times I will flip over to CNN or MSNBC in live mode to see what's happening. No point in setting up a recording because who wants to see old news?

this does not happen on my Series 2 DT when truly watching live TV. If I hit left arrow from live TV then I go back to whatever menu I was on before hitting the live TV button. If I was in now playing I go there.
Now if I start a show that is recording from the now playing list then if I left arrow I will go back to the info screen for that show - which has the option to stop recording.
I did not test this but perhaps there is a time out involved and after a couple hours of being in some show then the menu times out.

my news shows are set to keep at most 1 and I use a wishlist so I egt local and national news in one folder called news. I can go there at any time and be assured of having th latest news show to watch, that not even suggestions will override. Added bonus of if I just turn on the TV it typically is on the TiVo input and the news is already tuned in. Simple power button press is all that takes in the morning. I do the same with Good morning America though I keep 2 of those in case something comes on I want to see after I have to leave.
A little forethought and management of shows kept and Live TV can become a thing of the past save for sports or a fast breaking news event.

Actually, we rarely use Live Tv mode at night. But in the morning I use it for local news. I don't watch GMA-type shows and when I come home there's a new local news that is a scheduled recording. Other times I like to switch between CNN and MSNBC to see which one os more interesting.
We also schedule recordings for sports. We start watching late so we can FF during commercials, half-times is if the game is dull. You can do that with a 30 minute buffer, but the scheduled recording means you're on the right channel when the game starts.

What I do sometimes is watch 2 live channels at once, pause 1 then switch to the other tuner and unpause, watch for a bit, pause and switch again.
