View Full Version : Picture truncated; embedded captions lost?

Hi there,

I thought I was having a problem with CC being truncated, but the situation is slightly different.

I'm watching Tivo-recorded episodes of LOST and during dialog where people are talking a foreign language (e.g. Jin talking Korean), the show itself has the translation appear at the bottom of the picture.

However, *this* embedded text is getting truncated. I've played with my TV's picture format in case I'm getting some truncation there but all modes (Super Zoom; 4:3; 14:9; 16:9; widescreen) show the same (or worse).

So this suggests that Tivo is truncating the actual picture.

Anyone else experience this and have a solution? I'm on the latest firmware and in case its relevant my TV is a Philips 47PFL7432D/37.

Thanks
Tony.

Both your TV and TiVo have aspect options. Above you say you played iwth the TV's, but how about the TiVo's? Maybe you have it set on zoom.

I have also seen this before on some recorded episodes of Lost and it turns out that for me the program was broadcasted incorrectly. Later Lost episodes were fine.

Oh duh. I feel like a tool. I've just upgraded my series 2 to the HD box and didn't know there was an aspect button. That solved the problem nicely :)

Thanks Janry.
