I have a tv->s-video output on my graphics card. I would like to record things from my PC to my Tivo.
It works (mostly), but I get black borders on the left and right sides of the screen.
I am using an 800x600 resolution. I think this is the cause of my problems, but I'm not sure what resolution to use.
Does anyone know what the settings should be? I have a standard definition 4:3 television.
TIA

IIRC 352x480 is the traditional SD resolution, but widescreen DVDs can be up to 720x480. My S2 DTivo records everything at 480x480. Hope this helps.

I would use 640x480. S2 TiVos do use oddball sizes like 352x480 & 480x480 internally depending in the quality setting, but they do it by using pixels that aren't square. Anything higher than 640x480 would be a waste considering the limitations of s-video.
If your PC and TiVo are both networked I would look into pyTivo or Desktop Plus and just transfer your videos directly.

I have a Series 1.
640x480 lessens (but does not remove) the black bars, but it's much less of a problem than with 800x600. So I will use that for the time being.
Thanks.

Have you checked the output of the graphics card to be sure the black bars aren't being put on before the video gets to TiVo (I suspect they are)?

Wow. I never would've guessed that, but if I plug it directly into the television, I get the same black bars.
Maybe I will try asking in the nvidia forums.
Thanks for the suggestion.

:D
Actually, there's very little chance the bars originated anywhere BUT the graphics card.

You need to understand that S-Video only outputs a regular SD image. The resolution chosen on your computer is being "encapsulated" inside an SD screen. Your video card is taking the lazy way out when converting the 800x600.
