There are two things I know I'll miss when in a couple days I change over from my Time Warner SA8300 (running Passport) to my new TiVo HD. One is the reduced buffer time, but that's an issue for another day. The other issue the absence of a clock on the front panel. The SA8300 clock is our living room clock. I need a replacement. I want something to go on my A/V shelf, something digital, something illuminated ... basically something that will look like a free standing version of a cable box clock. The more discrete the better.

Most of what I've really come across are alarm clocks, and they look like alarm clocks :( . Or digital clocks that aren't permanently illuminated (not suitable when watching TV in a dark room). I've also seen a few USB powered clocks, that seems like an ideal possibility, but I haven't found one that is sleek looking.

Some of you must have dealt with the loss of your cable STB or Series 2 clock. What solutions have you?

There is a TiVo backdoor code that will put a digital clock in the lower right of the tv screen. I have a macro for it so I don't remember it off the top of my head. I will look it up.

Looks like it is Select-Play-Select-9-Select. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. :D

Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for. Just a suggestion on a good clock anyone has found.

Just get a digital LED alarm clock. You don't need to set the alarm.

I gained a clock when I went HD and got an HD satellite box.

Again, not really what I'm looking for. No, I don't have a problem with an alarm feature, but I want something that looks like it belongs in an A/V rack, not on a night table.

Dunno, but this puppy from Radio Shack ($9.99, web only) doesn't look any worse than most cable boxes.

A number of digital photo frames will show the current time (and calendar, if you want).

But you wouldn't want to be here in August.

Was playing with that this weekend. Is there any way to get that code accepted without having it change the channel if you're watching live TV? (yeah I know, "live TV?!?!?", but I do watch sports live)

Not that I'm aware of. I normally don't do codes while watching  LIVE TV

IIRC some of the backdoor codes will only work if you're watching a recorded show.

As soon as you finish entering the code and you hear the Tivo confirm, press the clear button. (YMMV)

I have had the same problem. I have an outdoor hottub that me & my wife love to use at night. We want a clock that is illuminated as well so we can see what time it is and how long we been cooking in the hot tub soup.

I have been looking for over a year... for ANYTHING... No luck. Like you I come across numerous Alarm clocks of all types, clocks that aren't illuminated.

Whats so funny... is the school my kids go too... all THEIR classrooms have an RED LED illuminated CLOCK! I want one! I have asked the principal where they got them, & of course he has no idea, because the school was built in the early 1970's and the clocks have always been there. :(

Go figure.

I like the seconds too.... I dont find the onscreen clock distracting at all. In fact I often find myself going through other steps to check what time it is (look at watch, cell phone, turn on TiVo banner, etc..) even though the time is right there staring me in the face.

I don't particularly care for the elapsed time being purely in minutes as opposed to hours:minutes.

I don't particularly care for the elapsed time being purely in minutes as opposed to hours:minutes.Agreed. Prior to the version 11 TiVo software update, it at least tracked the number of minutes accurately. Now, when it reaches 1 hour, the minutes roll over from 59 and go back to 0, which is very annoying for material that is longer than an hour.

I hope if they go into the code to fix this that they change it to read h:mm:ss instead.

I suppose this is something I take for granted with our Series 3. Love that front panel display.

I find a few possibilities on Amazon searching for "LED clock". Hard to avoid the alarm feature, but not all of them look like alarm clocks.

Forgot to mention that is part of my remote macro as well. You can also do the code while watching a previously recorded show and the channel would not change obviously.

I've got a clock similar to this one
http://oregonscientific.factoryoutletstore.com/images/CatalogItemVariation/5190/Oregon-Scientific-BAR339PA-TimeLight-Projection-Clock-img1.jpg (http://oregonscientific.factoryoutletstore.com/details/2245-4634/Oregon-Scientific-Self-Setting-Projection-Clocks-BAR339PA.html)

I don't use the projector fuction, but with the backlight on it works pretty well under my TV.
