The company that owns the NBC affiliate in Seattle (KING-5), owns a second station in the same market called KONG-6. The first-run programming is all on KING-5, and while KONG-6 runs repeats of KING-5 newscasts, repeats of Dr. Phil/Oprah in primetime, etc.

My wife is a fan of the Soap Opera "Days of Our Lives," which normally runs on KING-5 at 1 p.m. We have a season pass on it so she can watch it later in the afternoon. At that time, KONG-6 usually runs a repeat of the KING-5 local noon news broadcast.

BUT, when there is local or national breaking news (snow-storms, armed stand-offs or presidential press conferences), the breaking news runs on KING-5 with a banner on the bottom of the screen reading "For Days of Our Lives tune over to KONG-6." While this is great for those watching live who care more about the Jason/Ashley/Brandon love triangle that real current events, those who record their soaps for later viewing stuck with 30 minutes of droning Senators or local reporters standing at a street corner with something intereresting may or may not happen.

So if the company owns TWO stations, WHY NOT leave "Days" on KING-5 and run a banner reading "BREAKING NEWS: Stuff might blow up. Tune to KONG-6 for continious coverage."

That way people watching live can pick what they want to see, and DVR users don't miss their shows.

Because nobody cares about soap operas, dude. When someone turns on the TV to their local NBC station during a breaking news situation, they want to see **** blowing up. Why do you think breaking news is such a ratings cow?

Not saying they're bad, but soap operas are definitely not on anyones top priority lol

Set a manual recording on the secondary channel.

Set a manual recording on the secondary channel.

If it's that important and you have a TiVo with two tuners (or two ST TiVos) set up a repeating manual recording with KAM 1 episode on kong-6.

More options
- settle for the highlights video on nbc.com.
- go to itunes and pay $1.99 for the missed episode.
- bitTorrent

Tell me about it. Those shows aren't even in HD. Even most cable schlock is in HD now.

She likes watching her soap in her home office, which has the old Series I.

I told her to take the iTunes route.

"minor"?

clear accross the country - true.

but the only thing that would have made it minor was that luckily no one died.

had there not been tons of luck there would have been 150+ dead people floating in the river.

I can't recall a full sized commerical jet ever "landing" in the middle of a body of water and everyone getting out safely.
