I just received one of these remotes to use with my THD, and so far I really like the thing. The feel is much better than the older one, and it seems to control my toshiba TV better (the old one's mushy buttons were a bit of a paint). However, I have kind of a silly question...

Is there any way to turn on the backlight without pushing a button? We have a kind of a chicken-and-the-egg situation here. I don't know what button I want to push because it's dark, but I can't turn the light on until I push a button. What do people usually do? Stick your hand over the IR transmitter and hit a button at random?

I've had at least one other remote that had an accelerometer to detect when the remote is picked up, and another remote that had a button to light it. I'm surprised this remote has neither.

I used to hold my hand in front, or hit the volume. I've since turned the backlight off as my remote would go through a pair of batteries every 3 weeks. Now, none of the numbered buttons can be read as the black has worn off.
