TiVo won't recognizer Expander drive

I have a brand new TiVo, and just activated it through the TiVo website. I also bought a Western-Digital Expander. I have a TiVo HD. I follow the instructions that came with the drive but Tivo won't recognize the Expander. My account still isn't active yet (takes a couple hours according to the website). Could this have anything to do with it? I went into settings to make sure it was eSATA enabled, but I don't even have that option appearing on the screen. all i have are options for cablecards and remote. nothing for external storage. Any suggestions?

The original software version that came with the TiVoHD I believe did not have eSATA enabled. Your unit probably has this revision.

Your TiVo will need to download a newer version.

You can do a some tivo connections until you get the software update, may take 5 or so connections, current version is 11.

Then, you can unplug the tivo to plug in the expander, and plugin the tivo last.
