Short version: Does anyone else have Tivos connected to the Internet via AT&T's U-verse DSL? (Not for cable TV, just for the internet connection). If so, does it work for you?
Long version: I'm seeing an odd network issue with my Tivo DVRs with my Uverse internet connection. We have two series 2 Tivos hooked up to Charter cable for TV service, but are using AT&T Uverse for our Internet connection (tried the Uverse HD DVR, hated it, ordered an HD Tivo, but now I don't think I'll be able to get through the guided setup if the series 2 Tivos can't even connect to update their guide info).
Basically, it looks like traffic to the Tivo server that updates the programming guide, etc., is being dropped. The Tivo programming guide server's IP is 204.176.49.116 (port 80). I can't ping or telnet to port 80 on that host from my Uverse connection, but pings/telnet work fine from work and from a server I have in Dallas.
When I try running a traceroute from my home desktop and Uverse connection, it only makes it 3 hops:
1) 192.168.1.254
2) 76.250.32.3
3) 75.59.38.6
Since traffic is only making it 3 hops, I'm guessing it's a problem on AT&T's end versus a firewall issue at Tivo. Still, I'm interested in hearing if anyone else has the same weird combo I have (Uverse internet + cable company TV service) and if so, if it works for you.
This problem has apparently been going on for the last 3 weeks -- I hadn't noticed earlier because we'd been trying out the Uverse DVR and we were kinda busy over the holidays. I have an appointment with Charter for Friday to pop in the cablecard(s) in my new HD Tivo.
Thanks for any help / feedback you have!
Thanks!
