I have a stand alone series 2 and want to connect it to my satellite direct tv receiver.

My S2's are connected to DTV D11 and D12 receivers. I used S-Video and Red/White RCA audio out from the receivers to the DVRs. I control both with serial control cables for faster channel changes, but IR blasters work too.
Run Guided setup after you make the connection to tell the DVR that it is connected to a satellite receiver and get the right channel line-up and you will be in business.
